In another recent thread the subject of buck tags came up:
https://www.therangerstation.com/fo...ing-about-a-number-on-my-core-support.212281/
Buck tags are thin aluminum tags stapled to the radiator support on our trucks. They are stamped with codes, which can be referred to as the vehicle moves down the line, as to which components and accessory items are supposed to used, for the building that particular vehicle as it was specified.
To my knowledge, there is no list, or reference source, which explains these codes. The buck tag has the vehicle's VIN, which is obvious, but the rest remains a mystery. I *think* that there are a couple other of these codes that I've figured out- wheelbase, bed length, outside rear view mirror style, and possibly paint color.
So, I'm posting here the 5 tags that I have, with the Safety Compliance Label (as it has some of the vehicle's info too), a description of the vehicle involved, and a transcription of what's on the tag. Others who are interested, please comment or post your trim tag. @Jim Oaks - have you got any contacts at Ford, that could maybe throw us a bone here?
These codes on the buck tag, their meaning is probably lost to time, but it's cool that they were used on our trucks, and are likely still in place. There may be more codes which have obvious deciphering, but I haven't put a lot of time in looking at this, and more people looking at something usually produces more results that a single person can.
I have two Rangers, a B2, and a pair of Explorers (all older models); here's mine:
