Bronco R at the Baja 1000

I'd like to have seen it finish. Hopefully this leads to improvements. I'm guessing we'll see it tested again.

Although none of us are going to race a new Bronco in the Baja 1000, it would be great to know the vehicle we bought was durable enough to survive.

I agree Jim...

There is one tid bit of info I didn't post because I couldn't actually verify in the Ford Performance Tweets.

The rumor is that the Bronco R was in an accident with another race vehicle... that appears when the lead was lost... repairs to the skid pate and tie rod had to be done.

That is the way I understood it. Which was indicated by short roading in.

The main reason I like the straight axle....is simplicity for modifications and alternate tires for alternate terrain.

Dumb. Easy. cost effective.

Shannon Campbell and trophy trucks for 30 years before him thoroughly demonstrated that ifs can do it all

And trail control along with electric power will underline that.

That said. I want a solid front axle option with lockers and trail control....on the bronco.and.ranger

Even if it's 10 or 12 grand. They don't need it.....but who needs a raptor in PA?

This seems to be the official word on what happened...

We had several challenges during the race, including:

· Getting hit and becoming stuck after a trophy truck hit the Raptor in San Quetin Wash near race mile 190. That’s desert racing!

· This damaged a skid plate that also led to damaging the transmission cooling lines. We fixed the skid plate at Pit 2 but didn’t catch the transmission leak until after it started slipping. It made it to Pit 3. This took several hours to repair.

· Around race mile 480 we broke a fabricated lower control arm. This was replaced but took another 90 minutes or so.

· Ran into aftermarket cooling fan issues around race mile 580. By the time it was repaired at Pit 5 it was about 8:30 at night. The next portion was challenging and risky to get help on the course if something happened, and we’d likely wouldn’t finish until after the official time limit expired.

I'm just glad it wasn't a VW...

Note in that bullet point... they refer to the Bronco R as the "Raptor".

The theories are running all over the place about that already.
