broken skyjacker 6" lift leaves [FR36S]

UGH. not only were these things ridiculously expensive when i bought them..

but after just over two years of usage.. both bottom leaves are broken, in the same spot..

left side:

and i hate skyjacker's return policy, which is: send part to dealer i purchased part from, they send to skyjacker, skyjacker determines if it was their fault or my fault. if i need the part immediately, i can buy another, and if broken parts were deemed warranty replaceable, they will refund me.

when it came to my broken radius arm, it was just easier, and quicker to pay a guy to weld a new tab/reinforce both tabs.. than to deal with skyjacker.

the thing is.. if they don't decide to warranty the leaves, i am going to do the chevy 63" leaf swap.. especially after this break..
 
damn bro, if it can break you are the one to find the way lol. do the chevy swap screw those expensive leafs.
 
yea, if i can't get them warrantied, my plan is to do the 5.5" pro comp chevy's like walhstrom did..

Those look really rusty. Were they sitting in salt water? Post up a picture of the rest of the leaves. Did you take the spring clamps off?
 
yea i forgot to mention, i park the truck in the ocean when i'm not using it..

spring clamps = on, skyjacker curved over-load replaced with stock ranger flat overload--as per recommendation of the TRS elite..

the paint on them was half gone when they made it here from summit.. they don't package them, they just slap a shipping label on the spring!

i live in massachusetts, rust happens.. but these leaves should not have/do not appear to have corroded to the point of weakening in under 3 years... it just looks like fatigue from flexing up and down.. its basically a trail rig only now, gets driven to the trail, and gets driven for truck purposes, and when the car is broken. this winter i had it on the road for maybe a week.
 
Well, so far I've had great luck with the chevy leafs! I have them, a 6400 shackle and stock blocks and I can still tuck a tire until I rub the fender all the way around and they droop like crazy. I can literally lift the rear end 5-6' up (shocks disconnected) before the tires come off the ground....

yea i'm running the 6400's and stock blocks.. i need 6" lift from whatever leaves i use to stay where i am now (need the height till i go bigger tires, then i can remove the block, chop fenders)..

they say stock 63" are good for 3" of lift.. so maybe i should get chevy 3-4" lift leaves instead of the 5.5"?


your rig is looks quite taller than mine, but i'm only running 33's, so you have another inch of tire lift..
 
I'd do the 5.5's and go back to a stock shackle/shackle flip if you need to get it lower. That way you can add it all back later to get the height for bigger tires without having to upgrade leafs again.

thanks! i was gonna ask for a measurement..

pass side i have 28", drivers side i have 26".. the truck is on a jack stand on the front right and the tires aren't exactly equal pressures.. and both rear leaves are bent/broken.. lol


where did you pic up your leaves? shopping around now..

I bought mine through a local 4x shop back when the dollar was equal or better for me, but I'll ask him tomorrow where he ordered them through. My shackle angle is kinda crappy though, so I'm probably losing an inch there, and I have a 250lb rear bumper and a plywood boxliner, and 5 rims in the box, lol. I'd advise using the upper front hole and the body mount rivet as a guide rather then the lower hole thats usually used...

I will bet money they won't warranty them but who know's. You modified the leaf pack from what they were designed to be. I've never been a fan of any RBV pack. I had mine custom made.

i agree with you.. but i'd put the skyjacker overload on when/if i send them back.. i would bet money i would have bent them till they broke, long ago with that curved overload..

bottom line, they failed long before they should have. i wheeled the stock leaves for 2 years, and they were 7 years old when i started wheeling them. they are still very usable leaves..

i know i won't be buying SJ leaves again, and my story will live in infamy. :annoyed:
