Broken Bolt Holes on Engine Block

“Forced” is a strong word. A friend recommended car-part as he’d used it in the past for a transmission and some other stuff for his car. The one I did grab had no pictures but 126k or so miles and a 90 day warranty so I figured I’d risk it.

I just feel bad cause I am the bonehead who suggested you get a junkyard motor  and you had what I would consider a bad experience (the "better" motor is just as bad/worse in that specific damage)... hopefully if they make it right it really does come out all right.

So close yet so far… my new passenger side motor mount (from rock auto) is the wrong one! So I picked up another one at OReilly, that is also the wrong one. Anyone have the correct part number? It’s a 96, 3.0, 4wd.

Guess I’m putting the old one back in for now.

Happy new year!

they stick in there real good. I've destroyed tools and a plug or two.
If memory serves me correctly, they are common pipe threads. I would have to check to be certain. can anybody verify ????

For posterity, it’s 1/4”-18 NPT. I replaced it with Dorman Hex Pipe Plug - 785-422D from O’Reilly.

I recommend cleaning up the threads, I used a cheap kit from Amazon:
Brand: Yamesh
NPT Pipe Tap Set 6-Piece NPT Pipe Tap Repair Kit, Carbon Steel, Essential Sizes 1/8" to 1" for Thread Maintenance

I didn’t clean the threads initially and ended up ruining my original plug. I had to drill it out and use a screw extractor to get it out (square ones work well for this). Please learn from my mistakes.

30 days between posts... I'm curious, did they take the busted block back and give you another?

They took it back, welded it, and tapped some new threads. I got it back a while ago, I’m just very slow and doing a lot along the way. I’ll know how the repair holds up when it’s back on the road (hopefully soon)

Pretty sure I had the same issue. I had ordered both new engine mounts from O'Reilly but when they arrived only one of them fit right. I'm a little fuzzy remembering but I definitely returned one of the them and exchanged it for the other. I believe you need the 2643 for both sides. I'm assuming that you got the 2643 for the drivers side, see if you can mentally flip it over and see how it aligns.

You are correct, that mount is the correct one. PowerTorque B2643 from OReilly. Thanks!

I’m almost there, but I don’t have my ground wires figured out. This photo is looking up next to the starter. There are three terminals (or maybe two terminals and a loose bracket?) and I’m not sure where they go. I think the bottom one might be held in by the starter mounting bolts. I can’t tell where the other ones attach to.

The starter ground is definitely held on by the starter mounting bolts. There are only two positives that connect directly to the starter terminals. A little one that engages the starter solenoid and a big one that powers the starter motor, they both ground through the starter bolt.

Thanks everyone for all the help. I’m back on the road finally, and it’s running better than when I bought it! The welds are holding up just fine but time will tell how they do in the long run. I’m not planning on doing anything too fun and it held up over the speed bumps I intentionally drove way too fast over so I think it’ll work for me.
