Broke into the 13's on Saturday with my Ranger

Baffles won't fix where the front rockers hit Per the article Dave posted. anyone know what the stock height is?
Baffle are there for a reason I would guess, some have just beaten the center down for clearance. Dan, what stock height are you refering to?
Dave

Your stock V-6 trans will not hold boost for long... If you want to go fast, you need to start with a strong starting point across the board. I don't mean to be an ass, but my 4R70W is holding strong, and is bone stock... Every day I expect it to grenade, or start to slip and it just keeps on plugging along despite me beating the snot out of my truck and putting boost through it....

You're not being an ass, I understand what you are saying. If I did the trans swap I might as well just do the 5.0 swap as well. But then again I need money and time to do any of this and right now I am lacking both.

valve cover height

I'm still just a little worried about that corner, Maybe I'll have my machine shop guy trim the corners down??? I'd rather just get taller covers

i thought the mustang 5L was 1.6... i was looking into 1.7's and was told the baffles would have to come out... unless you're running an expo motor... in which case maybe grab the mustang covers?

1.7's need cut/aftermarket pistons for clearance.

I know you are going to hate to hear this, but if you are lacking both time and money, you should do neither and leave it stock until budget allows :bawling:

Dan,
I saved these from a couple of years ago, just to show the difference between the Cobra style and the stock Explorer VC's. Didn't take a picture of the difference in the corners but the Explorers are more rounded off than square.

Difference between the Cobra styles - EFI and carb. Same design but the oil fill moved from drivers side (would have been under the intake) to the passenger side. Not a good location if using the Explorer elbow (that puts the fill right under the TB).

Found a pair of tall EFI valve covers from a local mustang forum member! Gotta go pick those up now :)

yes they do, the baffles are like an oil shield, when the motor is running, the oil gets flung everywhere inside by the rockers, the baffles are put in there so that if you forget to put the oil cap on, for instance, you won't have any oil come out of the fill hole, but if you make sure to put the cap on, you'll be fine...

it also helps with breathers... however if you are building a motor like this, you can just do away with the intake draw breathers
