I don't post a ton here anymore I know, but here's a small update on my Roots Supercharged V-8 ranger.

Bit by Bit, I'm making my way toward my 12 second goal...

13.900, 1.99 60 foot, 95.33mph. (ran a 14.848 at 89.99 last year naturally aspirated)

This is FAR better than the 14.2-14.3 I was expecting, so I went ahead and placed orders for a handful of parts...

3.55's and a rear end rebuild kit
ProForm 1.6 Roller Rockers
CompCams XE264HR cam
CompCams Valve springs
CompCams Retainers
CompCams cam gear/chain
CompCams Roller Lifters

Already have a smaller pulley (2.0*8PSI* down from 2.3 *5PSI*) and colder plugs to go along with all this...

IS THAT AN 1/8TH MILE ? Just kidding-GOOD JOB AND VERY NICE TRUCK! Next I want to see some timeslips with 12.998 and .400 reaction! How is it hookin' up and what are you running in front tires for psi?

Ouch! Runs 8's in the 1/8th :-p

My RT is normally like .2-.35 honestly, but it doesn't matter during test and tune days.

after I lowered the HECK out of the rear tires down to 18PSI where I cut a 2.04 and the 1.99 that got me my 13's. It needs some finesse to get off the line, needless to say.

Front tires were 36PSI, nothing special.

max out the fronts like 40 or 50 ,just for track, it will aid in ROLL OUT and weight transfer. i really like the slight rake it looks very clean :icon_thumby: i loved to race but was a HORRIBLE driver at the track ,i feel asleep in the lights and could never tell which was the finish light on the big end-now i ONLY STREET RACE :icon_hornsup:

I'm not having weight transfer or wheel hop issues, it hunkers down nicely, spins a spec, and takes off. I have NO idea why it has so much rake honestly... Its a DJM 2/3 kit so it was suppose to sit level... I suspect having the 5.0 Mill up front is why it sits lower. I'm going to replace/flip my shackles to lower the tail a spec more later on.

If I start having problems I will get CalTracs.

As far as tires go, I plan on running slicks and skinnies before the end of the season.

That sir, kicks ass. What heads are you running?

EDIT: I forgot to comment on your weight reduction method. Very nice! :D

Darn, I would have thought you would already be in the low 12's!!! Well, I compiled some Ford info for you from Car and Driver, Road and Track, and Hot Rod mags from some time back. I thought you would get a kick out of some of these stock 0-60 and stock 1/4 mile times!!! I just stopped at 2005.
There are more. I thought it was interesting to see the times for these cars!!

Mod list is fairly 'basic' honestly...

Its a bone stock 98 Explorer motor (so GT-40P heads)

I ran a 14.7 my first pass at full weight, then managed a 14.3 at full weight (2.3 60 foot)

Figured "To hell with it"

and pulled off the bumpers, lights, and passenger seat and gave it hell.

Cut a 2.03 and managed a 14.03, then got the 1.99 with a 13.900 pass.

I suspect I would still run 13's at full weight if I had actually got a decent launch before I started dropping weight.

Awesome. I love seeing stuff like this. I forgot to ask.... are you running an auto or manual trans?

Keep in mind, my truck only dynoed 235whp (Shut down 1000RPM early, The shop was confident it would be putting down 250whp), so 13's isn't bad at all IMO Its just a stock 5.0 with a low PSI huffer on it.

Auto, 4R70W, So solid, love this transmission, I've beaten the hell out of it for nearly a year and a half, and its an 85K Junkyard Transmission, hasn't missed a beat!!!

good stuff, but your 60 foot seems slow, time for slicks, and what gears do you have now? I would go deeper than 3.55's....

I have 4.10's. Trans is a 4R70W Keep in mind, not an AOD.

1.99 is pretty rocking for a 60 foot on 235 width tires on a pickup truck IMO....

On a 28 inch tire, I'm shifting into 4th gear at like 92mph at 5000RPM. on a 26 inch tire it was like 85-86

I'd rather be running a 26 inch tire (Bigger/better/cheaper selection) so 3.55's with a 26 tire should be perfect.

Were the 4.10's in it when you ran 13.9?

The 4R70W is an awesome trans. I loved mine in my 98 Mountaineer.

Correct, I ran a 13.9 with the 4.10's. The truck shifted into 4th gear 3-4mph BEFORE crossing the 1/4th mark which hurts my power up top and my trap.

3.73's would be perfect if I were leaving the setup alone, but with the valve train upgrades and the blower I feel 3.55's would be a better fit to make use of my fat torque curve.

The difference between 4.10's and 3.73's is like 3% MORE than just switching the tire, so if 3.55's are too wide, I can switch down to a 26 inch tire.

Dan (Of The South) has a video of hood open and it running. Don't think you'd know at all whats under the hood. It's when the RPM's come up, you start to here that good old whine. That cam and headers ought to really wake that thing up. Myself, I'd at least do some head work while it's down that far. Sure there are a lot of 5.0L racers that could point him in the right direction.
