I test drove my 91 ranger today after replacing tyranny and it seemed as if i was pulling something or alote of drag. when i pulled back into my yard dirt/grass the truck wouldnt move forwards. If i gave alote of gas the passenger wheel would spin but truck still wouldnt move. allso i notice the "brake" light is on .. brake pedal is up and appears to be not engaged, Im not a mechanic and half stupid but would it be safe to say if one wheel spins and the other dont, its not the transmission?

Yes, that would be a fair conclusion.

Block the front wheels, jack up the rear wheels and put trans in neutral, engine off.
Try to spin the wheels by hand.

Make sure you didn't get an e-brake cable caught on something so it is pulled on one side, locking the rear brake on that side

e cable doesnt have much tention on it.. and it seems the truck will move in reverse and then will move forward till i stop then locks up again,, seems the driver side wheel wont roll forward?

Reads like a broken spring on a shoe in that wheel, or a bad slave, neither should have been effected by transmission work so..........??

e-brakes don't hold as well in reverse, that's why you can often back up with e-brake on but can't go forward, i.e. backing out of a parking space with e-brake on.

I am with RonD. Sounds like a bad wheel cylinder or a broken spring inside the drum.

I don't know what exactly is wrong. And drum brakes do not work well in reverse, period (it the design).

But, my money is on the rear brakes. And, I'd bet one of those drums will be helk to get off.

thxs guys , im fixin to see if i can get it off.
