Hello,

this is my first post here. I just got a 91 ranger 2.3L 4x4 sport at the begining of the week. I'm going to use it for shuttling my mtn bikes up the forrestry roads as I ride a lot of downhill trails.

I also use it as my daily driver and plan to do a lot of camping with it. A lot of the forrestry roads around here have washboard all over. I want to lift it a bit so that I can fit 31x10.5" tires, and also have some clearance for getting into some of the camping spots. I don't plan on doing any crawling or serious wheeling, just need to get around reliably in the bush.

Also, any speedbumps have the truck bouncing around a lot more than any newer ranger like my friend's 08 model.

Is there a lift kit I can buy that will not only lift the vehicle a bit, but also improve the drive on washboard, and keep it from bouncing too much when going over bumps slowly ?

I assume going with a larger 31" tire will improve the washboard rattle some aswell.

Also, what was the "sport" model ? Just cheesy stickers along the sides ?

i wasnt aware there was a "sport" model in 1991, sounds like cheesy stickers to me

For '92, the Sport package included power steering, tachometer, carpeted floor mats, leather-wrapped wheel, and "sport tape stripe". Also included 60/40 cloth bench seats, AM/FM stereo with cassette player, and aluminum alloy wheels.

I would assume this to be the same as for '91.

As for a suspension lift, Skyjacker makes a nice kit. Gas-charged shocks should help smooth out the washboard roads somewhat better than "plain" shocks (Skyjacker sells their "Nitro" shock, although even better would be to just get some Bilstein shocks for it). Washboard roads are gonna rattle everything to some extent anyway no matter what you do though, that stuff's pretty nasty.

ya what 4x4junkie said, sky jacker would be your best bet or james duff, their kits are bamb good and a softer ride, you pay for what you get with lifts, you want a hard ride go cheap, want a good soft ride spend good money. wash boards are always going to radle every bolt loose, thats how they are, unless you do 90 then you wont feel them.

You should be able to fit 31s with a leveling kit with very minor alterations to the front fender liners, especially if you don't plan on flexing it out much. As for the washboard roads, try airing your tires down some to soak up the bumps a little better, and good shocks are your best friend.
