i have a 87 ranger longbed std cab, and i would love an ext cab, just so happens my buddy has an 88 ext cab with a shortbox that got into a front end collision and totaled the front sheet metal. Would the ext cab and box swap onto my 87 frame? and would i be able to use 87 sheetmetal on a 88 cab?

your frame isnt long enough, IIRC its somethin like 7" i think

We have a search function, Bro. Please use it. See if that helps with any questions. This subject keeps coming up every once in awhile about body swaps. You can Google it as well, Bro. There is so much involved in adding a longer body do to the fact that you need to add to the frame. It is not for a novice and if you don't know what you are doing you are heading for a disaster, so be very careful with anything you do.

With some custom work anything is possible, here is an extended cab on a BII frame.

an ext cab is 12" longer then a reg cab and a short box is 12" shorter then a long box. i dont see the trouble?

ive been through this before, had a 86 ext cab and 86 reg cab and wanted to swap the reg cab on the ext cab frame and i measured it all out and thought it would work, then after i got down to the bare chassis on both trucks i found out the chassis on the ext cab one was longer

ok..i guess il see how much it would take to fix the 88 frame. thanks guys.

I would climb under there with a tablet tape measure and a friend to hold one end.Won't take long to know a lot more than now.

ok OP ws a std cab/lng bd & swap is a ext cab short bed. It seems to me that it should be the same length of frame.

Very nice ext cab onto bronco II frame by the way very cool looking.

I plan to remove my std cab from my long bed fram & make the frame longer after std cab section to allow for a extended cab I just recently bought for $80

'83-'97 Ranger short bed 107.9"
'98-Up Ranger short bed 111.5"
'83-'97 Ranger long bed 113.9"
'98-Up Ranger long bed 117.6"
'86-'97 Ranger super cab short bed 125.4"
'98-Up Ranger super cab short bed 125.9"

This is why it wont work. Yes it CAN be done, but its not bolt on.

FYI: It took me less then 30 seconds to look in the Tech library in the suspension section under Wheelbase chart and find this info.

the one wheel base not listed is the one Ford never built ,but I will be building. extended cab from a 98 onto the frame of a 94 std cab with a long bed. I want the extended cab ,but also want the long bed, have a camper & canopy & ladder rack for long bed so I dont want to swap to a short bed. Frame will be made longer after the std cab rear body mount area

Q. Is the 98 cab & 94 cab s front core support mount & front floor body mount in same location? I can measure ,but 98 extended cab is about 10 miles away in my storage unit. Thought maybe someone knows for sure
