Blown Timing Belt

I apreciate the help. My next part will be a crank pully. Id like to atleast have one next to me if the old one crumples apart. And i know im going about this half ass and wrong at best.

On the up side i can change a tooth in about 10min now. As long as its cold and i dont burn myself. Then going into a temper tantrum. When i bought it it didnt come with a fan shroud or a timing belt cover. More parts for the list.

I went back to 3/4 tooth retarded. 1/4 tooth advanced has less power and same mpg but better idle. I got my hands on a indicator with a long needle. When i get time i will make a adaptor for my magnetic base. Put it on the #1 piston and see where TDC rilly is.

No synthetic oil here. The tick is gone. How many miles after you wouldnt put it in? Ive never herd that but it makes alot of sence.

Makes things to slick, engines with over 100 thousand miles that are driven often start to show their age internally before we notice anything is wrong. Just like a header will reveal a miss that was never there before, as will synthetic oil in internal combustion engines that have some mileage on them. Another, more scientific reason would be the teflon base.
Eventually it will literally flake up on a microscopic level and clog the works up over time.
There is an article floating around I'll find for you that tells all about it.
The best thing to use is a good high grade crude based oil with only a light detergent.
You don't want a high detergent oil unless you use it from day one. High detergent oils will break down varnish and cause premature engine sludging and burn up bearings unless you use it from the start. and if it doesn't sludge up and you get lucky and all that crap make sit out of the pan during one of the oil changes it will create pressure losses, and blo-by's from removing the burt crap in the cylinder walls and suck thats holding the compression up in our older engines and bearings. There are high mileage formulated oils that do work though.
Max life is one thats for vehicles with over 75 thousand miles. Low detergent and very little additives but they still charge a little more for it. Go figure huh ! LOL !

Slick 50 and all that shit will make your higher mileage engine throw a rod or spin a bearing eventually. Best just to let them be as far as the engine case goes and only use them in the manual trans. Manual trans are slingers, not pumpers so there is nothing to clog. Thats why our manuals love synthetics.
