Blown Motor Mounts?

I'm experiencing typical symptoms (shifter walks over badly when I'm in first going up a hill or really getting on the gas), so I'm assuming my mounts are shot. I grabbed a couple pics of them, I guess at this point for reference more than anything.

How difficult of a job is this and where's a good place to order new ones?

i got both mine from napa. had to jack the engine up as high as possible and remove the motor mount brackets from the frame to get them out.

you have the option to get solid rubber or hydraulic mounts.. the hydraulic are OEM but the rubber ones are cheaper.

the solid rubber ones from napa are about $35, it's not easy, but not hard... you will need an engine hoist of some form as the engine needs to go up a couple inches. The drivers side mount is probably the one you killed if it flops around going forward, passenger if in reverse.

you have to remove the top nut (you'll need an 18mm wrench or socket) then jack up the engine and remove the 3 or 4 bolts holding the bracket that mounts to the engine cross member, once you get that off the mount is just held on with another nut then reassemble.

hydraulic are supposed to be soft to absorb engine vibrations and isolate them from the driver

rubber are just cheap replacements, but are probably stronger.

your truck came with hydraulic from the factory and from the looks of them are very worn out.

i went with hydraulic cause i didn't want to feel vibrations at idle.

the only reason mine failed was because i've raced hondas from a stop way too many times, not on the road of course. the last time i did it i felt a harsh BANG and then there was a clunk/vibration whenever the engine was under load.

i took a look under the hood and 1 motor mount had the top half completely ripped off and the other had the top stud ripped off. damned torquey 2.3l's

Based on that I think I'll probably go with rubber, unless the vibrations are going to be enough to rattle my teefs loose.

i always win against rice lol.

i can't really say anything about rubber mounts, but i can say that 4cyl's are rough idling engines with lots of vibration. the more cylinders you have the smoother it runs

for what it's worth, i put solid (when i say solid, i mean SOLID) mounts in my mustang, and it wasn't that big of a difference, vibration wise, yeah you feel it a little, but it wasn't enough that anyone would comment on, and it wasn't uncomfortable to me...

So I know this thread is old, but whatever. Are the solid rubber motor mounts from Auto Zone good or should I go for factory? Same for the tranny mount: Autozone or factory?

GO GET MOROSO SOLID MOTOR MOUNTS

you will literally never replace them again, and they are cheaper than factory ones!! They DO NOT wear in any way shape or form, nor do they rust

Do not ever put a solid trans mount on, unless you have solid motor mounts though, otherwise you will be replacing your bellhousing...
