blackfoots makeover!

Those grade 5s will fatigue and shear over a short amount of time

While I agree with you, those are two entirely different failure modes. Fatigue failure probably isn't as likely as shearing, but I'm still concerend about hose arms buckling.

FWIW, the Johnny Joints that I used (2.625" width) could be considered undersized for a FS rig, but the threaded shank on them is 1.25"-12 threaded in to 2" tubing. Just some food for thought.

yea im not too worried about the shearing factor unless I really put a direct stress on either side.....I was worried about the arms buckling because of the distance vertically between top n bottom links....but the spread is fair, like I said im willin to find out hard way and improvise. those arms will fail if I bang them on a rock im sure, but they're prety strong....it is a small diameter, but thick wall. and compared to any links you get in skyjacker kits or any others, its prety stout. the weakest links definitely the bolts, it was a quick purchase as it was all the local hardware store had. soon gonna b replaced by grade 8s. my intention by making the brackets wide was to accommodate rebuildable joints if I ever got them, or any other type of joint. but, these aren't too bad, im willing to learn.....I've done some test n tuning on different terrain, and nothing yet, no tearing or bending, I've got a few welds for reinforcement that will show signs of stress.....so, so far so good. I have more welding to do on it, and more I wanna do to reinforce the brackets. its all a learning experience for me....im prety happy with the results, but welcome knowledge from other and opinions...so thanks!

hey everyone! havent been on in a while...so last thing i did to my truck was that 3 link, which flexed really well but ultimately FAILED...threw too much stress on the center of the axle housing thus bent it...now, im back and rolling again as of recently, with a new housing, and back to the radius arms...extended a foot back. im not gonna try to re invent the wheel anytime soon, il stay with the radius arms for now. soon im gonna 4 link and coil the rear, has anybody done a set up like that?
