I have a 1989 BII automatic, 2WD (A4LD tranny) I am converting using a 1967 289. I was told not to use the AOD tranny, due to it not leaving room for headers and to go with the C4. Opinions? I wanted the MPG and quieter highway ride I was told the AOD would bring. This will be an every day driver not an off road setup. Suggestions on a particular C4 that would mate up well with a 1967 289? I was also told that the 89 BII axle (7.75) are fine for the V8 and I don't need to change to Dana 35 or bigger rear end. Thoughts? Thanks in advance, just getting some opinions to add to the pile before I make decisions.

Well they did use the 7.5" in V8 mustangs so that should be fine. As far as the AOD I dont know, my moms Crown Vic did ok, and im sure someone makes a header for that car. Or even a cop car with the 302. But I know that the AOD has never had a reputation for reliability. That would be my concern. I could be wrong though.
