Best trans for rock crawling

My exploder had a narrowed hp 44 and the stock rear on 37 Mtrs and a d and d doubler. My ranger is a fw hp 44 and a fw 8.8 with 5.13s, 35s and the stock t case

Mine also has a narrowed HP D44 and 8.8, I am on 35's with 4.10's. I like how it crawls for the most part. Having an even lower gear to crawl with would be REALLY nice but I would have to do a 203/205 doubler, an Atlas, or deeper gears in the axles...it's give up something in every case, being drivetrain length, expense, or loss of top speed on the highway. The Atlas route is probably the way I will go eventually.

One other option you could look into is a NP435, T18 or T19...there was a guy here a while back who was building adapters to put those behind a V6, here is the thread, but he hasn't been online in a while:

Had the thought to do that occured to me when I actually had a V6, I might have done it but I wouldn't give up the V8 torque for nothin now.

with double low....a stout a4ld or whatever you got in there should be pretty good.

just dont use overdrive in low.

Nah. A c5 is found in early production bronco 2s and Rangers. Like 83 or 84s. It is a non over drive auto. It is a version of the old c4 (found behind the v8s I. Early Broncos Etc) with a bell Housing that will fit the 4.0/ 2.9 and a tcase adapter that will fit a 1450/1354. They are durable but don't have an over drive. They are also getting hard to find.

The trans on a V6 C5 is a little different than a C4 or V8 C5... of course not in the better way.

You can build them up the same as a C4 or V8 C5 but out of the box they are weaker.
