Can't believe I'm asking this because of the controversy. But what brand and synthetic or non synthetic? I personally favor valvoline and non synthetic.

I put 334,000 miles on my '93 2.3L using only Motorcraft synthetic blend and FL-1A filter.

I like supertech synthetic..... I buy mobile1 when its on sale.
The big rigs and other diesel vehicles got royal purple 15-40 and fleet guard filters.

speaking of which, I need to find the owners manual for my Buick to find out what weight/grade goes in it.

Cheap Walmart oil, whatever the manual calls for. Has Miley Cyrus been twerking onscreen in motor oil again?

that skinny brat has no ass....... who wants to watch her twerk?

There's no such thing as the "best" oil. See this thread:

As for me, I use synthetic, even though I don't have to, just for the added peace of mind. As for brand, it's whatever's on sale. I'm not picky or brand loyal (and neither are my engines). As for viscosity, it's the as-specified-by-Ford 5w30.

As long as it's API certified, is the correct viscosity/type for your engine, and you change it on time, your engine will outlast the rest of the vehicle. Use whatever you want and rest easy.

I use Motorcraft semi synthetic in my trucks.

I was amazed how much it cleaned up the inside of my 302, it was black (not gunked up but just black) inside when I got it. When I changed the heads (E6 to E7's) a year later it was spotless inside.

Motorcraft now has a full synthetic, kinda pricey and hard to find- but that's what I'm using in the ecoboost. It seems to skank up oil a bit faster than the ranger because the heat of the turbos I'm guessing.

Yup, change it on time and you'll always have good wear and a lasting engine.

Personally, I use Quaker State 10-30W from Walmart, $12.50 for 5 quarts. Sometimes, I get the high mileage if it's not $17. This last go around, I got Supertec.

Put some ChemTool in the crankcase and run for 10 minutes before your oil change. It cleans it out a lot, and I do that process maybe once a year/every 2 years-ish. Never had a problem with this Ranger, or the other Ranger at 200k miles on each.

OH! Do NOT get Fram filters. Those cheap filters allow the most microns pass through your filter, and it does a poor job of collecting the particulates.

I'm using Tropartic in my wifes ecoboost. I change the oil every 5-6000. It comes out pretty clean. I run a Motorcraft 500s filter.

Aftermarket filters in general can be kinda flaky IMO.

Last week I had a guy with a Cub Cadet lawn mower and a John Deere Gator call me, he wanted to know if they took the same filter so he could just get JD ones from me rather than drive out to the CC dealer. He gave me the numbers on the filters for both machines.

So I pull up Wix, yup they both cross to the same filter. Pull up JD on a whim, the CC crosses to a different JD filter than what the Gator uses. So Wix must have decided that it was close enough to work while JD which has used Kawi engines for a good long while thought it was worth making (and thus stocking) a different filter.

Kinda made me step back and think about aftermarket filters in general... how often do they deem close is good enough?

Of course I had just put a Wix on the Kawi in my JD rider...

Can't synthetic mess up some engines? And if fram is the worst filter then what would be the best rated?
