thats a week with me.....i never know where i will be next.

just putting it here because this is not simply a matter of opinions. i drive on the most dangerous roads in this country in the most dangerous conditions.

the OP has location listed as logan Utah.

out in the high dessert, this is a place.... a different kind of place.....where regular mud tires...(which i call aggressive all terrains. because ya know, one mans mud tire is another's aggressive all terrain) ......will kill you because they are the absolute most worthless tire for the terrain in regards to the vast amounts of ridiculous windswept elevation changes across paved and hardpan one has to cover to go from one place to another.

as to the opinions...

not one company that makes mud tires will recommend them for a vehicle that sees 80 percent road in a daily driver application.

the reason is because they suck on wet pavement. they suck everywhere except in mud .... and compared to actual mud tires they suck there too.

they wear rapidly...and lose thier edge at half life. quality snow rated all terrain geolanders are at 3/4 life and begin to outperform them.

if you dont drive much ... it dont matter. as long as adding 60 feet or compared to a quality snow tire .. doubling your stopping distance isnt an issue either, your good to go.

still, buying more then two sets of tires per year sucks.

where you live and drive...along with the seasons you experience dictates the tires you need.

i would wager falken wild peaks would be ideal as a single tire for op,s area.

in West Virginia, the coopers in mud or similar are likely a safe bet.

you sure as fawk wont drive down rabbit ears this time of year when its drizzling with typical mud tires. sure ....you will go down rabbit ears ...you just wont be driving.

Dang @bobbywalter

Your day one ended minutes from my place. Ya should've stopped by for dinner.

I've been looking at replacing the mud terrains on TRS-3 with all terrains. There's some pretty good all terrains out there with good tread that get 50k-60k tread life and wear a lot smoother than these mud terrains. Mud terrains only last about a year and a half on my truck and the ones in here now won't balance for shit.

Perhaps look at what's offered in a R/T (rugged terrain?)

Buncha different manufacturers make them now.. they pretty much split the difference between an AT and a MT. I have kenda klever RTs on the bronco and they are sweeeeet. 60k mile tread life warranty IIRC.. might be only 50k though. They'll make the miles too no doubt.. I have just about 25k on the bronco now and I'd say they're almost half worn.

Check out Outdoor Auto on youtube. He does a lot of tire reviews with the overlanding mindset. His content might help steer you toward a particular tire. The man nerds out on tires. Most of his off roading is in Idaho and the Southwest, so it's going to be biased toward that but his content should still be helpful.

I vote for Thornbirds. :icon_thumby:

This thread has shown me that we need to create an article / page on the best off-road Rangers, as well as an article on picking the best tires for your Ranger.

One years tires are next years no longer exist tires. Seems that once you fall in love with a brand & model, the manufacturer changes their line up & your left searching again. Hopefully finding something that worked on/off the road where ever you have been or end up going.

I am glad for the market focus on off-roading however, or the "look" of off-roading. I believe the new Ford Bronco has done quite a bit lately for that interest. Let'er rip (tater chip) Jim!

Not for the good ones. I've been running BFG mud terrains & all terrains for almost 35 years.

Exactly, don't mess with a good thing! These are the standard, and actually I've never really ever heard anyone complain about them, except being really old, like me....but at one time they were very $$ pricey.

I have zero issues with my MT tires on wet pavement and they last me just as long as AT tires do.

They have changed their tires a lot over the years.

If the KO3 does in fact replace the KO2 across the board... I won't be aspiring for a set. I much prefer the timeless almost retro treadpattern of the pre-KO3. They kinda buggered up the sidwalls a little with the KO2 but for the KO3 all it has going for it is the solid white letter tires over other options... and in my size that isn't particularly special.

Now if you want a tire that has been made the same for decades @Jim Oaks so it really must be awesome... Thornbirds. :icon_idea:
