Best Gear ratio perf and economy?

I have a 4x2 99 3.0 Ranger Auto with 31x10.50/15. Was wondering the best streetable gear. I have been reading the forums and am tied between 3.73 and 4.10. I want something more peppy than the stock gear yet something that won't kill mileage as this is a daily driver and not an off-roader. What rpm ranger per speed would i expect from the 4.10s? I keep reading how the 3.0 is better suited in the 3000rpm and higher range in both performance and economy. Any help or discussion would be appreciated. Thanks

4.56s with 31s and a 3.0, especially with an auto.

How would that be at cruising speeds? What rpm would it be at 65-80?

2800 at 70
3000 at 75
3150 at 80

All perfectly acceptable.

With my explorer I went from 3.08 to 3.73, and my mileage improved a LOT went from 17 to 20 average, Drove to ohio the other day and averaged 23 there and back.

You can simulate a lower gear change by not going into overdrive, much bigger tires can be simulated by starting out in second gear.
Works with a stick anyway.

On a 2wd 3.0 with 225/70-15's I recommend 4.10's.

Hell my less revvy 2.9 loved 4.10's with the 235/75-15's I was running.

My 4.0? not so much.

Thanks for the info. I just bought the truck for $1,500 with 118,000 miles on it and a blown head gasket. Its really clean tho and has westin brush guards and nerf bars. 3" body lift too. i'm sure i'm gonna love it. Plenty head room too since its an extended cab. will post pics of it soon.
