got a bit of spatter on the top one there. the 2nd isn't so bad. not that i can talk it prolly would be better if i picked my nose and wiped it on the pipe haha

This contest would be better at a Round-Up. If we ever have one again. We had D28 disassembly and assembly before, for instance. Doing it live and having to figure out the amps and such and then produce a good weld is a lot different than producing a good picture at your leisure. This is an awesome idea though.

It's consistant, but I've given him advice before about keeping the "whips" tighter together. I know that the first 2 photos are older ones from his ATV build.

I'll post the first TIG weld.

I even stamped it to prove I did it! :icon_thumby:

I had to weld up a cracked engine mount from my JD210 last weekend, but was in such a hurry to get it put back together that I didn't mess around with pictures. Starting an engine rebuild on it this weekend.

What's wrong with that?

Looks good to me. Scrape the bb's, wirewheel it, and you got yourself a fine looking weld! :icon_thumby:

These are old tests form Proctor & Gamble, both are Tig.
The test on the Stainless was for consistency in weld width and to look for under cut.I had one jacka$$ Engineer that used Dial Calipers to measure your weld.CJJ7028 was my stamp ID number.5 years at that plant with no write ups for my welds. They made Pringle Potato chips.

here's my MIG... it's an old Miller CP200 and a S-22A feeder, running Hobart wire, I'm trying out this new gas from Airgas called (goldgas steelmix). it doesn't specify on the bottle but i think it's like a 86/14 mix? anyone else try it yet?

That aluminum piece I did is only a taste of what I really weld. 3/4" x 4" aluminum welded to 3/8" aluminum "C" for an aftercooler some 70" long. After hand welding that twice(per side) on I don't know how many units, you tend to get good at it.

Wait till I get back on steel, then I'll show you what I can really do....

Awesome work guys!
Makes me miss the Fab shop a little.

I gotta say, you lay down some pretty nice stainless TIG beads! Gold color means you hit the sweet spot as far as heat goes.
