beefed up lawn mowers

Ive got a mower i changed the pullys so it goes like 30 mph. then i welded the spiders. it went any where, then I blew up the tranny, so i replaced it with another one that was open. Ive put like 3 trannys in it so far lol .

what are spider gears out of curiosity? (its spelled wrong) and how much do they cost?

i could try that since itd be easier then putting in a v6

spider gears are used in an open differential, aka one wheel wonder. If you weld them it makes a spool of completely posi traction aka 2 wheel peel. :) Making a rear end completely 100% posi is hard on them and will likely cause breakage if driven on the street alot. In a mower its great unless you try to break the rear end like I did.

Go to youtube and search Mini tractor pull youll find about every engine you can think of on a lawn mower to pull the small sled from twin briggs and strattons to motorcycle engines and v8s. There kinda entertaining not really functional though.

it seems simple but im not to sure of digging into a tranny and rear end.
but ya gotta learn sumhow
ill have to get an old mower then cuz we have a good one and my moom would kill me if i suped it up other than that all i got is an old cub cadet hydro.

ill look for a super cheap craftman that way parts are close by

Hey man, it's really easy taking apart a transaxle(transmission/axle) on a lawnmower.

Takes about 5 minutes to unbolt it and take the tires off. Once you got the tranny in your hands.. you can see where everything unbolts and you take the top part off and youll see the spider gears and all the gears in the transaxle.

It's actually a cool way to learn without ****ing up a real transmission. You can see how all the gears engage and everything.

The gears in those tractors are actually kind of beefy.
