Hello
The Ford Ranger was designed by Mazda and built by Ford. The 2003 Mazda B2300 was designed by Mazda and built by Ford.
The bed is different. The Ranger bed is wider. Mazdas bed is not as wide as the cab. Because of this toppers or covers are not the same.
Please put the inside dimensions of a short bed here for every one to see.

Hello
The Ford Ranger was designed by Mazda and built by Ford.

FALSE The 1982.5 (the ranger was a mid year introduction) through current Ranger is Designed and built by ford, the Mazda B-series 1994-up are
essentially rebadged Rangers with minor styling changes.

The 2003 Mazda B2300 was designed by Mazda and built by Ford.

See paragraph above

The bed is different.

Yes, it is, the exterior skirts are different

The Ranger bed is wider.
Externaly yes, but the inside Bed sides,
the Deck, the headgate (forward bulkhead) and the position of hte inside edge of the rail (where one would but bed cap clamps) is unchanged from 1982.5

Mazdas bed is not as wide as the cab.

External styling

Because of this toppers or covers are not the same.

The cap off my 1983 clamps right onto my 1993
or my uncle's 2004 it just looks funny.

Please put the inside dimensions of a short bed
here for every one to see

Measure yours they are all the same
(well, within the Long bed/short bed restriction)

EXCEPT for the Ranger Splash/Flareside bed which is entirely different

Mazda went for a pseudo-flareside look, but the difference is entirely confined to the external "skirt" (aka fender) of the bed.

The Exterior of a 1993-up Ranger is more bulbous to match the body profile of the new for 1993 Aerodynamically styled cab, but the difference is restricted to the exterior skin and tailgate.

With a spot weld drill and a box of pop rivets I could prove it to you
by detaching your bed skirts and installing a pair off a 1983.

Ranger like 2003 Mazda B2300 bed dimensions

Went outside with a tape to measure my bed. Measuring inside the plastic bed liner it measures 71 7/8 X 54 1/2 exactly. I am going to install an aluminum cover that fits inside the rails. Not knowing how to shrink aluminum it has to fit.

btw, if you ever get bored, you could see the ranger in plant in St Paul, MN. It's been in the news off and because Ford doesnt know what to do with the plant if they stop building Rangers. It has its own hydro electric plant and has been in operation since 1924. The wiki is here- (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Twin_Cities_Assembly_Plant). It's interesting reading.

AllanD is right (not that he's ever wrong) I came to the same conclusion about the bed sizes when I was looking for a cab fairing for mine. Lund doesn't list the one I want for an 87 anymore, but I went out and did some searching and found that its really only the quarters that have changed, I can bolt on 07 bed onto the back of my 87 and while it might look stupid, it'll work.

Interesting side note, you can also take a Ranger bed and bolt it onto an early/mid 90s tacoma.

What looks really stupid is a splash bed on a Gen1 or Gen2.

There ARE length differences because there are Long beds (std cab only)
and the short bed which is used on BOTH the supecab and standard cabs

So you could have a "nominal" 6foot or 7foot bed.

But like I said Splash beds are completely different.

Now if you buy an early (gen1 or Gen2) cap and put it on a Gen1 it looks like
someone with a round head wearing a hat that's way too small.
(Like Stephen Furst wearing a "Woodie" hat made for a 5year old)
