Barely Running!


I wouldn't re-use those heads - they're inferior. The heads design was strengthened for 89. Maybe you could find some used 89 heads from a wreck for a quick and easy fix. Look for the 89TM designation on the heads. Bummer.
 
That's what I am gonna look for, i think there is a 90 ford ranger with a 2.9 in my local wreckers, so they should be good. My cylinders still have a nice crosshatch to them, only 90,xxx miles on it.
 
yu can prob get the whole motor for $400. a '90 will be a big improvement over an '86
 
BIG improvement.
Or you could use those heads and save the complete block from the wreckers for a spare.
 
I got the heads today after 2.5 hours of work. 5 out of 12 exhaust bolts broke but I can get them out.
 
just the heads or whole motor? well, you took them off, so just the heads. how much you hafta pay?
