I replaced the clutch/pressure plate/throw out/slave (twice)/master cylinder/hydraulic line and ran about 6 quarts of brake fluid through a 94 4x4 with a 3.0. Still can't get any pedal. Or I might be getting the right amount of pedal just don't know it because it won't go into gear, even while up on the jackstands. When I dropped the trans, the first time, the fluid was real dark and thick like 80/90 gear oil but blacker. Is my trans shot? Possibly, I was just lucky enough to get it into the home garage before it went out completly. Or should I replace the fluid with what I think the previous owner put in it, 80/90 weight.

dont know it it will work for you but it did for me i went and bought a master mixer its just a big syringe but i filled that with fluid and hooked it up to my clutch fluid resivor and opened the bleeder valve and forced some fluid down then tightened the bleeder and sucked up with the syringe i could see bubbles coming up in the syringe then hooked the resivor back up toped it off and had plenty of resistance in the clutch let me know

and if its a tk5 it takes 80/90 if its a m5XX i think they all take atf i know th m5r1 does

I'm going to give that syringe idea a try. I saw a similar idea in the Tech bleeding section. I'll let you know. I'm also going to check the trans ID. I thought that year trans used ATF but I'm sure the fluid I removed was 80/90.

if they ran 80/90 in a m5r1 iv herd mixed story's about that some say its ok same say it will burn up your syncros and some bearings cause on the m5r1 they have splash guides to oil the bearings and gear oil is to thick to splash but i dont know

I split open 5 M5OD trans this week and found :
3 4x4 4.0 trans which I got for free from friends
trans # 1 Input & output tapered bearings in pieces (oil leaked out)

2 Someone rebuilt it and did not put a thrush bearing in the back
of the input shaft. Busted up the a syncro & pocket bearing.
Oil baffle was installed backwards.

3 Someone put a shim between the bearing race & input shaft??

1 4x4 2.3 trans
Worn out syncros

1 2wd 2.9 trans
Someone put 90w trans oil and now the machined & bearing
surfaces are mirror smooth. I'm gonna change the output
shaft and make this a 4x4 trans. :icon_thumby:
