i put a 4.0 and m5od in my ranger about 3 years ago and in that time i have had now 3 clutch slave failures. first one was used but obviously not very old, it came with the trans and i just put it together how it was. second and 3rd were autozone or advance auto style replacements. not exactly sure where they came form or what brand but they were the big parts store type replacement parts. now it's leaking bad enough i cant really drive it, gonna be nervous just trying to get it to a garage i can work in. now what im starting to wonder is if my combination of clutch hydraulics are causing premature failure. iirc, my clutch master is a 2nd gen (fits my firewall) the hydraulic line and slave are from a 93 navajo (my donor) and im wondering if this combination isnt quite right? im probably gonna get a brand new master, line and slave from a 91-92 ranger unless anybody has another idea.

I have had good luck with the Perfection complete set that you can get from Advance.

I see a fair amount of questions like this, I'm wondering if it may be fluid contamination causing the seal to wear out prematurely? I don't have an answer....just thinking out loud.

cant find a complete set on the website, maybe they dont have one to offer for my application. they do have each part listed individually though.

cant really imagine fluid contamination would be much of an issue. it was all fresh and clean fluid that went in. the system doesnt hold much so its pretty much flushed out just in the process of bleeding it. probably 6 months ago i did get burried in the swamp, had the clutch and bellhousing full of mud and junk. i could see that being a little bit of an issue for my most recent failure but it still doesnt explain the others.

does anybody know what vehicle to get parts for to fit my mix-matched drivetrain? i need a master to fit the firewall of my 1st gen cab, a slave to fit the 93 m5od and a line to connect the two. parts for a 91-92 ranger would be my best bet, right?
