I’ve bought the Ranger. 4.0 OHV AT 4WD 122000ml. My MPG around 12 (drive only on 2wd and not fast). Engine work smooth, idle is good, without rough. Temperature of water also good. I noticed only one issue. There is exhaust leak (between bed and cab), but after cat converter. When I pull over and turn off engine, smell like a burn dirty. I bought OBD scanner for 20$ in Walmart. Did not show codes. Is it clogged cat? What should I check? Thanks.

I would start with a basic tune up, plugs, wires, coils, air filter, fuel filter, oil ect.

A clogged cat could definitely be choking up the system, but I would start with the basics first.

That's pretty terrible mileage. I just thought mine was bad, till I read that....

I did pick up a couple MPG with a product called 'cata-clean' that I found at the Zone. Whether or not that would help you, I don't know for sure.

Lots of things could screw with your mileage, though.

Previous owner changed plugs, wires and coils. Also engine works good, without misfire.

What size tires are on it? someone could have put larger tires on it before you got it, and never regeared the diffs.

What do you think about check intake pressure? I watched YouTube, guys check clogged cat.
The gauges is 20$ on Amazon. Only I don’t know what hole use in Engine.

Has your speedometer/odometer been corrected? If not, you're not even getting a correct mileage reading which makes calculating mpg impossible.

Check the sticker on your driver side door jam, should tell you what size it came with originally. Sounds a little big.

I am also not familiar with that process.

Yes, is correct. I checked on highway and google maps.

I’be checked. Same size.

I had a clogged cat and gas mileage was not a problem. I just could not get up to speed very fast due to less power. It would idle fine but would not rev up very far.

I have not problem with rev up. Engine work very good, no check engine, but mpg(((

Usually a clogged cat gets very hot. Has been known to melt the carpet in the cab.
