Bad crash near our home

================================
Gotta love how people/press/cops ALWAYS make it a point to say "They weren't wearin their seatbelt". Like it would of made a difference, NOT! If the public got the same type of info on the incidents that the seatbelt killed em or if they would of been wearin it they would of been killed. Happened just 2 weeks ago to a guy I work withs Step-Daughter, she turned to their Granddaughter who was in the back seat in a child seat, and vered off the road, hit 2 trees at 70mph, she wasn't wearin her seatbelt, got thrown out of the car, she had 2 broke legs, broken heal, & cracked ribs, but she's alive.........the car was a early 2000's Cavalier, the dash was pushed back to the front seat, if she'd of been wearin the seatbelt, her legs would of been crushed, she'd of been pinned, and probably bled to death. The Granddaughter also suffered a broken leg even in the car seat.

That's why it should be a CHOICE, not a LAW!!!

I'm guessing that you don't wear one.

Also, a "broken heal". I'd be very interested to see that. Was it some previous injury that she had sustained that had begun to heal (the verb, as opposed to "heel" the back lower part of the foot) and then she was re-injured during the crash?

My wife was ran off the road in my dads Buick, rolled the car off in a ditch that was about 18 feet deep, seatbelt saved her ass!
Without it,it would have dropped her on her pretty blonde head and she would have bounced around like a pinball and I would be devastated.

We all obviously have our own opinions about seatbelts.

Lets talk about something we can all agree on:

Even if it's a Chevy, it's bad when the wheel ends up in the engine bay.

What part of 'she was hanging out the window having a good time' do you not understand?

You're a genius.

NOT.

I'm embarrassed to say we're from the same state.

Almost two years ago my cousin lost his life behind the wheel of his ranger. according to the police report he'd been driving in excess of 110mph when he slammed dead on into the side of a grain bin. if you think the engine being in front of the truck is bad, imagine it two feet into the bed of an extended cab.

the speedo gear and a u-joint cap were recovered nearly 100 feet on the OTHER side of the grain bin.

we may not agree on seat belts but lets agree to drive safely, not just for your own life but for the lives of those on the road with you, and for the lives of those that love you. If you are impaired don't drive, and don't let those you love drive impaired. Always remember, no matter what you've done, those that love you will forgive you. Suicide is Never the answer.

Some see a photo like this and instantly poke fun about what may have happened, the fact is someone died. Someone lost a daughter, a sister, a cousin, a mother, their best friend, and that is no laughing matter.

We had a bad crash here a couple weeks ago, head on at or above 55mph. Both drivers were wearing their seatbelts and both survived.

My nextdoor neighbor was killed when the dumptruck he was driving blew a tire and rolled. He was thrown clear of the crash right up until the wreck caught up and crushed him. Had he stayed in the truck he would have been just about untouchable in the cab with the bed behind it.

When my mom was little a drunk driver hit the fully loaded family '58 Bel-Air on the highway. Not a person was wearing a seatbelt in the car. Everybody got banged up pretty good but made it, but her little brother was thrown clear of the car. They had to search and search to find him, he was right next to a fence post (luckily he didn't hit it) She has been a big seat belt advocate ever since she sat as a 8 year old in the ER getting checked out and watching the doctors stretch her baby brother on a U shaped board and pick glass out of him.

It makes more sense to me to stay in the metal box than to hope you get thrown thru a hard windshield just right to safety.

We will never agree to the seatbelt/no seatbelt issue. Talk to any paramedic/EMT and I would guess they find more people survive because they were wearing their seatbelt than not. I used to never wear mine until I saw a head shaped bubble on a windshield of a car in a junkyard. Hair was embedded into the glass and dried blood was streaked down the windshield. The accident didn't appear to be too serious and barely totaled the vehicle. If they had been wearing seatbelts nothing probably would have happened to them. I know I need all the hair I have left and that's not much. That being said after 18 seatbelt usage should be a choice. If you're an adult and choose to fly through the windshield with the rest of your passengers then go right ahead. I hope you have good insurance coverage to take care of you during the rest of your vegetative life. I'm going with the odds and wearing my seatbelts.

Do you also go dig up gram every so often to see if you can revive her?

What is with all these 8+ month dead threads getting opened back up again?

a friend of mine had her boyfriend driving her car, she didnt have her seatbelt on, he was phuked up on something, ended up sliding the into the trailer of an 18wheeler PASSENGER side first, thankfully she was able to duck down under the dash quick enough. had she had her seatbelt on she would have not been able to move mor than 3" and gotten ripped in half.

with that being said i ALWAYS wear my seatbelt and tell anyone in my truck to buckle up, in my 300zx i went so far as not to even start it untill i herd two clicks. if you have ever walked along side a highway with cars going 50mph+ stop and imagine the devistation our soft skin meat sacks will sustain exiting a vehicle with that much force/inertia. im with 85_rang4x4 and stay in the metal box.

I agree that the seatbelt thing will never be solved. Everyone has their own opinions about them. But I have been saved by mine twice now.

I totaled my Toyota when I was run off the road by another driver
* Ended up with a broke back in (4) different places and 44 stitches on my 9" laceration on my head
*My little sister was with me and had 47 stitches on her head but that's all she had.

Also in my F-150 7700 Series that was hit head on and totaled. The other driver admitted to reaching for his cell phone when he hit me
*That truck held up amazingly!! Look at my truck then look at his car

I was just thinking to myself the same thing... I remember reading about this back in december.

And it isn't the first one recently.

I've come across several threads dug up for stupid reasons across some of the more active areas of the forum and a few that were 2 or 3 years dead in some of the less traveled areas.

One guy was asking about mileage on his B2 in the Mazda section in a thread that was barely related to fuel economy.

I agree, there is enough to read here already in the new threads. I for sure don't have time to be diging up this old stuff. Are people really that bored? Get out there and work on your trucks for Christs sake!

I know a lot of people killed young in this type of wreck. In my case, three in a short period of time. I was wondering if anyone was going to make it to adulthood.

You wonder that a small tree can do so much damage? I've never seen a tree lose. Our roads are 17' wide with no shoulder and we have a lot of scars on them. The trees always win.

The three things to take note of are that a living tree, unlike a stop sign, is much tougher as it has more moisture and is more flexible--a living oak trunk is much more sturdy than a dead piece of lumber. The only reason you dry it is for dimensional stability--you make it weaker when you dry it. Secondly, a living tree has roots that can go down 50', even if it is fairly small, and those downward roots come out of a lot of places--not just a single tap root below the trunk--that tree has a lot of mass below the ground, and going off in a lot of directions--including straight down. Lastly, the mass above the trunk also plays a huge part. All of that mass above the point of impact plays a huge role in the results of your crash. If the tree was only 6' tall, you might run it over. Even if it is only 6 inches thick, it might have a couple thousand pounds above the point of impact--that mass is something you have to deal with if you plan on running over the tree. The net result of it all is that even a semi will be stopped by a pathetically small tree. A small vehicle like a 4-ton dually pickup doesn't stand a chance.

The big question is--do you know where your kids are?
