okay im having a problem and need an answer i have a kid on the way and was wondering if ford ever made a ext cab ranger wiht a full bench style seat for the back like something i could put a carseat in.

Nope. I have the same problem. Junior gets to sit in front while the wife gets stuffed into the jumpseats when we all have to go somewhere in the truck. I sure wish Ford would bring the crewcab to the U.S. Everone else on the planet gets it, why not us?!?!

Your best bet if you want to stick with a compact pickup is to go to a *gasp!* chevy colorado... they offer a crew cab... and despite what people say, they aren't that bad of a truck, my boss's dad has had two of them, and we've used them to pull quite a bit of stuff, and they're fairly tough trucks.

The sport trac isn't even a real truck anymore with the independent rear suspension. The bed isn't really big enough anyway. My ranger will probably get replaced with a Tacoma eventually but I'm just not ready to let her go yet. Not to mention the abuse I'm gonna get when I show up to work at a Ford dealership in a Toyota. Ford just doesn't build what I want. Small crewcab with a 6 foot bed.

Could I possibly fab a bench into the back

Unless the driver and passenger have short legs and can scoot their seats up, I don't think there would be enough room. Plus you would need a seat belt setup to be legal and have to pass a safety inspecion (if your state requires them)

.

I agree with backroad. Not as much room back there as you think. That's why they put the seats sideways in the first place. The rear seat in an ex-cab F150 doesn't even have enough room to sit comfortably.

I'm curious about this, too. Is there any other compact truck with a rear bench that would fit? I wouldn't be subjecting adults to it, but baby car seat in a side-facing jump seat is a no-no. For trips with more interior room we have an Excursion.

I'm having to look at full size trucks just for this reason. I could definitely use an 8' bed, too, but the car seat is the kicker. I'd definitely give up the bed length for the big difference in MPG (I drive at least 50 miles per day).

You'd get the same mileage with a 1/2 ton V8 as you would a 4.0 Ranger... so you may as well upgrade to a half ton...

And despite what some people may say, don't count out other brands of vehicles, many have never driven them and don't know about them at all... they just go off of hearsay...

That is what I did... and never looked back.
