Back in the Game

Looks awesome man. Me and Andrew were talking the other weekend; as soon as all of us West boys get finished, we'll have to meet up and have an RBV wheeling trip.

I like that idea! I wheel with a couple other Rangers here, we could get a good size group!:headbang:

Andres!! Welcome back bud!!! I looked and couldn't find what the heck happened to the BII?? I loved what you were doing with it.. Oh and Red??? What happened to the Ranger?

Well, mostly what happened is it was turning into more of a truggy than I wanted. The whole reason for having the BII body was so that I could carry four people! But with what I was going with on it, I would have in the back: rad and fans, fuel cell, spare parts, full size spare. Where do the people sit?? So I had to take a step back, took a break from working on it for a couple months while I decided what I wanted, then this Ranger kind of just fell in my lap. So, I decided this was going to be a better direction for me to go, so unfortunately the BII had to go.

And the red truck is still kickin'! I had it sitting around forever and ended up selling it to my friend who plans on driving it in winter and doing a mild build on it, so that's cool.

I really liked the BII with the half doors and such.. I think you and Mike are 2 of the best when it comes to making small changes to make big differences.. Maybe sometimes it's better going small to get a big result rather than Big results to getting off track of the origional vision.. I can't wait to see what you do with the new Ranger!!

Thanks multi! Yeah, this one is going to be a lot more "simple" than the BII. Will still have half doors though! Picked up another set from the JY not long ago to make some out of, probably not until next year though, once the rock season hits. :headbang:

Cool I'll be watchin!!

Well got the rough cutout of my front fender done, and started on some tube flares/flat fenders. Front end is complete minus shocks.

So you are making a steel tube fender like a lot of the jeep guys run? Are you running a tube from the bumper to the fender tube?

Kind of, yeah. No the bumper and flare will be separate, the bumper will be welded to the frame and i want to be able to pull the fender.

I got the other side flare bent up and welded on, now I just need to get some 14-16ga plate to sheet it in. Will be welded to both the tube and to the fender, surprisingly strong. Lots of Toyota guys around here run flares like this and take their fair share of abuse.

Also figured I'd take some pics of some of the parts I have around and will be using.

Cool pile of parts. I definitely want to see those fenders when they are done.

I have been wondering about a fuel cell. Im assuming you just take the power wires from the stock setup and put them to the new pump, and just splice this pump into the send line on the truck? I could never really find much tech about doing a fuel cell.

Yep, pretty much it. I will try and make the stock fuel gauge work as well, but we'll see what happens. Far as splicing the line, I will use the -10AN fittings from the tank to a barbed end, run rubber fuel line to the barbed fittings in/out on the pump, and run rubber line up to the stock post-pump filter. The stock filter has a... thing... on it that once a rubber line is clamped around, it won't slide off. For the life of me I can't think of what to call it. Not barbed... whatever. You know what I mean. :icon_rofl:

your build is looking awesome! looks like you have built some nice rigs since the last time i was on here. i really like what your doing with the fenders as well as the lower tracbar mount, in fact i may try to copy your lower tracbar mount but im not sure if it will work on a 79 d44.

Thank you! :icon_cheers: The axle is actually a 73 D44 with 79 knuckles, but is the same as a 79. So I don't see why it shouldn't work. I did have to notch it for tie rod clearance though. :dunno:
