I'm looking for a B2 and plan on doing the 4.0 swap. I know the 89 and 90 are easier swaps but how much more difficult is the swap in the "1st gen" B2?

Thanks for reading my first post!

you have to change a few things with the fuel system carb to efi, and possibly more wires but its still a fairly simple swap

Ideally, you want a '90 BII because...

The '91 Explorer engine harness is a plug & play swap :icon_thumby:

The 4.0 fuel lines plug right in :headbang:

Most '90 models with a manual have the M5OD :headbang: :headbang:

The later '90 models have the D35 front axle :headbang::headbang: :headbang:

Basically, most of the good stuff you'll eventually want is already there.

Yes, all can be added to an older version. But with the prices of Bronco IIs it's not that much if any more to get a '90. And by the time you add the cost of the D35 and M5OD you're likely going to eventually need, the '90 is probably cheaper in the end.

It will greatly simplify your swap

Thanks that is exactly what I needed to know. RS

Only if it's an 84 or 85...[/QUOTE]

Oh, thats what im dealing with. I just need to find a newer one that I can pull the tank and the lines from. thanks

I've never seen a B2 factory with an M5OD..
If it is a '90 Bronco II and has a transmission code of "M", then it has the M50D. It was an option to the FM-146 in '90. The 1-4 gear ratios were lower than the 4.0 M50D.

I've never seen a B2 factory with an M5OD...

My old '90 BII was factory equipped with the M5OD and the D35.

If I'd known then what I know now... :annoyed: :bawling:
