should only be the passengers side. did the pumpkin get water in it? could be rusted/corroded in place. youve got the spindle off and the steering straight ahead? pull on the axle and tap the yoke to try to drive it out.
You gotta get mean. To work on a Ranger with u-joint axles you need a short-handled 3# Thor hammer and you have to use it. Mine is an 8# actually, that my brother knocked down to mechanic size by over-shooting the log-splitting wedge.
The key to mechanics is to be able to deliver devastating force with a large hammer in only 3" of run-up space.
It's not a c-clip on the passenger side--much wimpier. More like an e-clip.
All of these axles suffer from lack of PM. The break because they are not maintained, not because they are weak.
Clip is a damn clip but that is moot on that side. I'd mother thump it too, but shop or bush Alaska I'd set a bridge puller and whack the **** out of it till she popped.
