Ive got a 7.5 rear axle w/torsen l/s and my passenger axle shaft slides in and out about a 1/4 in. Where do I start lookin for an issue. I just had the rear end apart 2 weeks ago and didnt notice any thing.

I'm assuming the c-clip is there or tge axle would fall out. My 8.8 had some play in it but I can't remember how much. I believe they are designed that way so you can remove the c-clip.

If it was a normal clutch type l/s it could mean the clutch pack needs re-shimming or replacing,

to the best of my knowledge, torsen doesn't make a 7.5"...

and based off of what i can find from torsen's application chart, they never have...

they make one for the 8.8, 9, and "ford mtx 75" which is a front diff for a transaxle, i assume focus, available as an aftermarket part, stock parts, for ford, it was available in 8.8, for the 2002-2007 rangers (fx4) and the new boss 302, as an option, i believe that was an 8.8 as well

Its a Trac lok. There is about 3/16" play from the factory. Worn clutch discs or cross pin will make it worse.

they shouldn't... a worn c clip would though...

the clutches slide freely on the axle shaft, they have teeth to sit into the gear on the end of it... 1/4" doesn't seem that bad to me...

The clutches are sandwiched between the case and the side gear, and the c-clip is against the side gear, so as the the clutches wear out the spring pushes the side gears further apart. Thus allowing the axles to slide out further.

so axle clips if not my diff is worn out? my next question are the trac locks rebuildable?

ahhh, yes that makes sense...

c clips, clutches, or side gears... or could be the notch in the end of the axle shaft it's self...

yes it is rebuildable, all of the parts i named above, are available for a decent price... c clips are probably <$10 from ford, clutches are around $30-40 i think, side gears (all 4) were around $70 iirc, from ford, but this was for the 8.8 axle shafts, i would say go to a wrecker...

grab a vernier (or digital) caliper so you can measure everything if/when you take it apart... you won't be able to tell what's worn if you remove everything

Took the cover off today the end cap of the diff on the pass side is a little loose. not the bearing cap but the threaded plate that supports the bearing... any ideas?

I haven't a clue what you're referring to.

Does the track lock have the S spring or 5 coil springs? My diff has the coil springs.

On one side of the diff (pass. side) it has a screw in cover dif is cast cover is macined. its about 4 inches round has 2 pins to keep the cover from rotating. Ill try to get some pics after I pick up some more gear oil.
