Hey I am swaping a dana 35 from a 90 ranger with 4.1 gear from a 4 banger and willing to swap a rear 8.8" from an 92 explorer.

Now the question: I know the 8.8" is 1.5" wider then my 7.5". But the front is wider then the rear...so what diff of width wil it have between the 35 and the 8.8?

Now an other question: I am planing to put 5.13 gear. Do I need a special carrier for the front? Probably a notch cross pin...can i just grind the other one?
Do I need a special carrier for the rear( it will probably have 3.55 or 3.27 gear).

Thx guy I know that this have probably been talk about somewhere in the forum....but what will be a forum without any new thread!!!

The 92 explorer rear end will be 3" wider than the 7.5 or 8.8 that is found in the rangers. The explorer 8.8 will be the same width as the d35. There is no carrier break for the d35, so you will be fine to swap gears. As far as I know there is no carrier break for the 8.8 either so again, no special carrier is needed.

Yep, no carrier breaks on the 8.8", and all HP D35 TTBs use the "hi-ratio" carrier, regardless of ratio (even the 3.27 ones). Swap away with the 5.13s :icon_thumby:

Also, use a solid pin on the 8.8, the notched ones are weaker. A tiny bit of grinding on the tip of a ring gear tooth or 2 will let it go past (this won't affect the gear at all).

They better not be... (Precision Gear (the manufacturer) still lists them on their website) I'd try another place (maybe try right here :) )

That's right about inline with what I paid for my Precision ones 4 years ago. Steel prices (and everything else) have damn near doubled since then

that true man...but I can have 4.88 for 500$ with masket kit...the 5.13 ring and pinion is almost that

???
I see a difference of $22.50 between the 4.88 and 5.13 Precision gears.

(not sure what the F's up with Yukon's prices though, that's crazy) :icon_confused:

Steel prices, hell. There's about a dollar's worth in a set of gears.

I know it's your rig and parts, but please regear a less desirable D35 like a 3.27/3.55/3.73, the 4.10s are very rare and you could sell it to someone who needs one for a decent amount of change.

yeah i know dude...i will regear my friend 3.27 explorer front and give him my 4.10...but the 4.1 are not that rare...search for a standard 4 cyl they usuly are 4.1 gear in them...and I,d like to know if a jeep limited slip will fit?

The diff from a Jeep rear D35 is interchangeable with the TTB D35 yes.
