Ok, I did a search and couldn't find anything great on axle codes that gave me a certain match. I used Crazy_Bronco_2's idea of making a photoshop tag and attached it below. I think it means I have 3.73 gears with a 7.5" ring gear, but the only reason I had some doubt was that I have end axle play (along the axle shaft, not up and down) and I was thinking it might have been from a wearing LS clutch pack. With just C-clips, I don't know how I'd get that much play otherwise. (I need to measure with my indicator to get a better idea, I know, but it certainly seems excessive.) When I go down a potholey road something in the back end clunks back and forth pretty violently, and the suspension bushings all seem tight (cab/bed mounts are all good too). The only thing I could attribute it to so far was the play in the axles.

(Sorry for so many questions, but I also have no idea how to attach pictures off my computer apparently!)

You have an open differential 7.5" axle with 3.73 gears.

As far as play in your axle shafts, about 1/8" or less is normal. More than that and I would be concerned.

Thanks for the replies guys, that's what I thought about the diff, was really hopin for a LS. Maybe I'll scrounge local yards for one, and swap that in while I'm in there replacing the C-clips.

metalmacguyver - I just graduated from Clarkson U, do you ever get up to 7 Springs to 4 wheel? I've got a couple of buddies who go up there all the time, it's Clarkson's old ski hill, some really gnarly stuff to drive up.

I have in fact. I went a couple times with dave and james. (Big jeep and big yota). They graduated this spring too.

Are you still up there or are you all done with Pdam?

Yeah, I knew both of those guys, I would always forget James' name and call him Dave, ha ha. He was in a bunch of my classes, and pulled us out on more than one occasion. Do you know Ben and Tyler? Ben's from my hometown, has a Red Cherokee, Tylers got some sorta yoda I think. Small world I guess. No, I'm not in Pdam anymore, moved to SC for my first job. Um...it's kinda flat though here...not sure I'd recommend it for 4x4'in.
