Automotive Engineers

1) You're no fun. I was using you as an excuse to get at Straycat.

4) That's pretty awesome. It'll be excellent feedback. Just play the politics and be nice, I guess? If you did get picked, the manager would let you go. Go in with a list of stupid things you've seen. When I talk to my guys at the shop/lab, I hear stories about how other engineers don't put shackle lifting eyes in a 4,000# hunk of steel, while other times it's just a tolerance stackup issue when all parts are at their highest tolerances, and pieces gall and get seized in a fixture. The most common solutions: machines shop to send that crap back, while other times is to just cut it out with an oxy/acet torch.

LOL...you can't get a stray cat to come up to you until you earn it's trust!!!

My brother-in-law up in Ohio is retiring from the Ford Plant in about another year after over 32 years there. He always lets me know what is going on at Ford and when he told me several years back the Ranger was going to be discontinued I was shocked. Such a fun truck to own and I have had 2 BII's and 3 Rangers and never had any issues with them. Just maintain them and drive them!! He told me that as they are working on the assembly lines they have a lot of issues putting things together. He always has to say to his bosses that this is a stupid idea to put this here or why put this here...etc. He said the plants upper big bosses say that down the road when the vehicle have issues, most owners will have to bring the vehicle in for repairs with the potential of earning Ford more income.

I have only been frustrated once helping a buddy on his 2000 Ranger 3.0 oil pan gasket replacement. He said the dealer wanted $800 to repair it. I stupidly said bring it over Saturday with the parts you have and I will help you replace it.......HAAAAAAAA. I had to go down and get an engine hoist from a buddy to lift up the motor!!! Man...I keep my word and I got that pan gasket replaced...but it was about 4 1/2 hours to do so!!! I did it for free since a buddy is a buddy.

SLAVE CYLINDER?
Who needs a slave cylinder?
MASTER CYLINDER?
Who needs a master cylinder?

Owned a Plymouth Valiant Slant 6 MTX. Clutch was all mechanical linkage. Need to adjust the clutch? Just open the hood and then reach down and turn the star wheel to adjust the length of the connecting rod. Simplicity.

Who was the GENIUS that designed my 86 Ranger so that the trans will not slide out of the hole between the trans hump and Y-pipe?

Getting back to the OP, though by this time he's probably done, I want to say that when I changed the clutch in my 1991 I ended up rolling the transmission upside down and it came out with the Y pipe in place. It's been a while, but I think that's how I got past it.
