Does anyone on here have or know where I can get the floor shifter assembly for a 1988 Ford Ranger? Here is a picture of what I need.

I didn't know they ever even made a factory floor shift option for the bronco 2. Are you only looking for the factory setup as pictured? There are alot of aftermarket floor shifters that will work with the A4LD.

All the 83-88 RBVS had the pictured shifter for auto trans/manual t case arrangement.

Im not sure why they went away from the floor auto shifter, seems a lot less hassle then a column shift, And youd only need one steering column and dash cluster regardless of transmission setup.

I agree I love floor shifters for automatics. Especially since you can upgrade to fancy cool aftermarket ones like ratchet shifters. Not much you can do with a dumb column shifter.

That would be against Ford's basic way of making automobiles. Make things as different as possible, requiring the most part numbers and the most spare parts on the shelf.

Look at all those bellhousing patterns through the years.

Why in the world would you make the Bronco II rear frame an inch wider in the rear than the ranger pickup? Requiring a different rearend on the production line?

For the OP only 85-88 were set up for a 4spd, 83-84 were set up for a 3spd (either C3 or C5)

Most new cars have gone back to it (console shifter)

I kinda prefer a collum shift, the automatic shifter which most of the time does nothing so it is just occupying space that could be used for something else. Floor shifter wasn't a big deal because there isn't much going on down there anyway but I am not a fan of console shifters.

Stability?

Then make the ranger 1 inch wider so everything interchanges.

Ranger was already in production so do you want to redesign a frame or just kick the perches out half an inch a side for the new model?

Pinion angle is different and IIRC the offset is different too so they won't be "the same" anyway.

At least a column shifter is still better than the stupid electric knob on the Edge.

I effin hate that stupid knob. And the parking brake "button".

You think that's bad? Drive a manual transmission every day for 20 years, then try to drive one of those stupid push-button ones.

I can't actually process the shifting of the vehicle into the different gears and have a LOT of trouble driving them.

Yep, I'm the only one. I gotta have the stock stuff for my build.
