Auto to manual swap

Will an ECM out of a 1986 work it also has manual shift 4x4 not electronic like mine has.

You can use your 88 auto computer you just have to trick it into thinking it's always in P or N so you can start it, the manual trans wiring to ECM has a clutch triple function switch, which you don't have or need as long as you cross the NSS for my 89 it's a pink wire and a red/blue stripe.

If you use the manual computer on the auto wiring I'm pretty sure you still have to cross those wires to get it started. Because you don't have the wiring for the clutch triple function switch.

But the 2.9l computers are pretty interchangeable as long as you get the egr or non egr one specific to your truck. I believe the earlier ones had egr the later one didn't I put my 89 2.9l no egr computer in my 86 2.9l with egr but all the components were rusted away lol, n they both started up and ran good.

The electronic shift 4x4 isn't controlled by the engine computer
It's a stand alone system
but 86 had egr 88 didn't.
