auto dimming head lights

I read the owners manual & have it set to high sensitivity . the manual states it sets it to low beam if it detects severe fog, rain or snow.
last week it was foggy 3 days & at times it would go back & forth from low to high due to the density of the fog....... works good.

so I am confused as to why at times the system is slow to detect on coming traffic & I need to override the system ???????

I never changed any of the settings. It seems to be working as it should. I haven’t driven at night when it was foggy though.

the high beams stayed on once to often , got flashed again by on coming traffic due to S L O W response time of the auto dimmer.
turned the damn thing off

Auto dimming headlights are stupid and remove too much responsibility from the driver.

the auto dimmer has more intelligence than some operators I have encountered..............................nuff said

I finally had a chance to drive the truck when it was snowing at night and the system didn't work so well. I had to disable the lights to keep from getting blinded. Otherwise, it has worked fine for me.

I drive an hour to work in the morning in a mostly rural environment. So far I love the auto dimming headlights, it frees up a hand for more important things, like coffee... lol

That's not a new thing at all. I think the issue here is more specifically about the feature that switches from high beam to low and back automatically to prevent blinding other drivers. People have been too lazy to do that since before I was born. Apparently, the technology in these trucks isn't doing an adequate job either.

It's the Dumbing Down Of Society. Same thing with Adaptive Cruise Control.

Turn all the sensor controlled shit off and pay attention while driving. That approach has worked well for me for the last 44 years.

I think this automatic/smart/adaptive tech has gone so far its defeating its own purpose by becoming more distracting to the driver. Any time I take my moms edge out for a drive I find myself fumbling around the 40 million knobs and buttons (that are never actually marked with words but only incomprehensible symbols) just trying to turn the wipers on or stop the damn computer screen from telling me to connect my phone. I dunno how many times I've veered into oncoming traffic just trying to adjust the baffling air conditioning controls in that thing. You've gotta wave your finger across a glowing bar to change the temperature.

See, I don’t think it’s smart enough.
I want my truck to start itself as I’m walking up to it, open the door precisely when I get there, and have the temperature set without me even having to check... is that too much to ask for?

Nothing new, that level of intelligence has been around for decades, these things could do all that and more:
