Audiovox cruise control install? Anyone do this?

I've got a 2000 4.0 manual and I need info on where the VSS (Vehicle speed sensor) is located so I can tap into the wire (if you know the color that helps to).

In checking the tech library it looks like the tach wire is off the PCM (power control module) which should be mounted on the passenger side firewall/fenderwell and should be a brown or tan wire with a yellow stripe.

If anyone has a webpage or pictures that would help too. I plan on taking photos for anyone else that might need them.

Not sure about a 2k model year, but the VSS sensor on my 95 ranger is on the transfer case.

I've been looking around for the VSS and it looks like it is has a gray/black wire that hooks into the PCM) powertrain control module that goes through the firewall on the passenger side. I'll head out and see. I hate to run a wire down to the transfer case if I don't have to.

Thanks for the tip!

on a 2000 the speed sensor is on the rear axle, even worse!

check the passenger side fender, you may have all the wires you need if cruise is already pre-wire, i know on the 2.5s it isn't, but i have seen it on the 3.0s, so maybe the 4.0 is the same way, should be a flat black plug i believe

Hey Alaskan, if that dang plug on the pass side fender is everything I'll be kicking myself. I just routed all the wires through the firewall. I did use the ground right next to it though and mounted the servo right there too.

I've still got to do the wiring inside the cab. I found the gray/black and tan/yellow in the tangle of wires above the foot emergency brake so as soon as I get that hooked up I'll finish off with some pictures and put them up on webshots for everyone.

Thanks for the link, I'll print it out and take it out with me.
