Attempting to save my paint

I bought this 2000 ford ranger a while ago and it seems like it has a lot of sun damage to the gloss, but if you peel it off it appears as though the paint hasn’t been damaged and remains consistent across the vehicle. Could I gently polish off the peeling gloss and then just add another coat of gloss and not entirely repaint? I have never done any car painting so this may be a dumb question, thanks

There are people who have put a new coat of clear on their vehicles. But I have never done it. You would have to be super careful not to sand through the paint on body lines and corners.

Just look on youtube, I see several videos on the subject.
