Third generation is generally considered to be 93-97.
I know other veicles like Mustangs have had a bunch more changes in their first gen than the Rangers did between their first and second but that is usually how it is referanced on here with 83-88 being first, 89-92 being second, 93-97 being third and 98+ being fourth.

I see a listing of '98-2006 and then 2007 and newer different. Sure look the same. Be sure when you get one to check the (4) nylon bushings, they are usually cracked or broken. Ford part is F6SZ2471AA.
