Are You Going To Preorder Or Purchase A New Ford Ranger?

One of the members on ranger5g already has his in the shop for the trans....the techs are waiting to get "permission" from Ford to dive into it. See it here: https://www.ranger5g.com/forum/threads/first-ranger-in-the-shop.1609/

I checked and see he updated:

After running the truck on the lift for a long time, it wouldn't leak (which always happens, it seems like). They finally shut the truck off and it started pouring coolant so they were able to trace it to the heater core. It was taking the weirdest route that everybody had missed it until they got Ford approval to really heat the truck up. It wasn't coming out of that hole at all, but it was a Houdini leak that nobody had seen yet. FMC is FedEx'ing a new heater core from Detroit and we hope to have it by the end of the week.

My Lariat Supercrew 4x4 is due to arrive at the dealer in 4 days.

The guy I'm dealing with dropped the ball on the initial order. So, it's on the pre-order, just later than originally planned, Expected delivery date is the end of February, beginning of March now with the quoted 6-8 week build time (order actually submitted Dec, 31st instead of the original August 28th date).

I have Been considering getting one i just don't like the idea of 700$ a month and trading in my F150 but if i do it will be a 2wd Lariat extended cab. the bare minimum truck wise but actually nice interior wise.

I can't wait to you guys get your trucks and get some real MPG figures. I want to see how they compare to the F 150. I'm planning on buying something by years end. It'll either be a new Ranger, or a used F 150. I don't put a lot of miles on my daily driver, normally only gets drove about once or twice a week.

depends

Probably going to think real hard about getting my GF a 2020 model. She wants a Black Lariat CrewCab 4x4 Sport. HA! maybe it will have a 2.7 :icon_confused:

I'll never buy one if they don't offer a real standard cab WITHOUT the auto-start-stop technology.

No hybrid technology.
No auto engine shut down tech.
No built-in navigation or GPS of any kind.
No speed-sensitive radio volume.
No sync technology.
No wifi.
No "link" button to contact Ford or some third party security company.
No electric seats.
No heated or cooled seats.
No electric rear window.
No soft open tailgate.
No back-up camera.
No parking sensors.
No auto-braking tech.
No parallel parking assistance.
No fake skid-plates for appearance purposes.
No plastic "bumpers"
No rain sensing wipers.
No intelligent access or push button start.
No satellite radio.
No keyless entry.
No $750 per month payment.

Just an actual standard cab short bed, 4x4, manual transmission, manual transfer case, vinyl floor, cloth seats, Eco-Boost V6 or turbo-diesel, with no frills. No power windows. No power locks. No power mirrors. No power seatbelts. No sunroof. No "big brother" features reminding me to do anything or chiming in my ear.

In other words, less soccer mom features and more real truck features that guys like me desire. Simplicity and affordability is key for me.

GB :)

Power windows, locks and mirrors for me.

It is nice to be able to move the mirrors on the fly if the sun or some idiot with their highbeams is behind you.

But that is about it, throw in cruise and A/C and I am good for critter comforts. :icon_thumby:

I'd want the windows, mirrors and cruise too, as these are functional, but otherwise I can't stand the automatic stuff. I don't even like having the A/C go on automatically when I put the defrosters on. Every automatic feature is a basic skill that soon people will be unable to perform on their own - I can't tell you how many more cars I see driving without lights in the dark because the drivers apparently are unable to turn them on. A recent rental had a feature that told you what the speed limit was, but it didn't work so well (see picture - I was on RT100).

Still, no one is marketing a simple standard cab truck any more - I noticed some time ago that the only recent standard cab trucks are fleet vehicles and some special performance toys (mostly Dodge). Given the exponentially increasing price of vehicles and the lack of basic mechanical skill or interest of the public, the profit and interest is in the features/apps, while often the actual mechanical spec are degrading (many cars have gone back to rear drums and no longer have independent rear suspensions - buyers don't know or care what those are anyway).

Shame, as I'd really like one of these small displacement, small turbo direct injection engines with a 6-spd manual trans in a simple platform like my 2004 ranger.

I had the dealer call me when they got some Rangers in, but they didn't have a blue one. Test drove a white one XLT loaded, had to wait a couple of weeks till they got a blue one in.They called me as soon as it was unloaded, it was dirty as hell. XLT with everything but leather seats. Test drove it and it and bought it. Had to go back and get it after pre- delivery and cleaned up. I like the hick out of it. I still drive the other two rangers so don't put to many miles on yet

Dude this thread is hilarious. The first page and a half did exactly what you said dont do.....OMG I spit coffee at my poor dog when I saw that.

Yes I own one.... didnt preorder. Actually was away when they launched and I just didnt get over to see them. Probably because I knew if I sat in one I would likely buy it.
And...
Saturday, April 27th I sat in one for first time,
Monday, April 29 I test drove and purchased after spending 10 hrs doing research on the vehicle on Sunday.
Wednesday, May 1 took delivery.... Haven't stop smiling yet!

We are a bunch of NON-Conformists and Button pushers. Tell us "NOT" to do something and watch what happens...:stop:

I see what you did there, 85.

I have a year left on my lease for the Santa Fe, then plan to tool around in the '92 for a year to save money and reduce debt before purchasing a lighting blue one.

That may change, but I will mark owning a brand new Ranger off of my bucket list.
