Moog tie rods

I was happy to see that Moog tie rod ends I bought were made in the USA. I previously read somewhere they were made in China. Just thought I'd share.

The pieces could have been made in China and shipped to the US to be assembled. That is enough to slap a "Made in USA" sticker on it. Not necessarily says this is the case for Moog...

I hope they were “made” in USA, not just assembled here. Many times forging comes from India, boots come from China, and parts are just assembled here. I’ve had terrible luck with early failures of premium Moog tie rod ends.

My buddy dropped some serious money redoing the front end of his 275k mi 02 silverado HD with all moog stuff.

Lasted about 2 years and roughly 15k miles

The low end Moog stuff is crap. Their Problem Solver line is better. I replaced a lot of ball joints and sway bar links on my old Sport Trac due to the lift. I think Mevotech is better.

When I worked for Autozone years ago, there were times that I dumped a part out of a store branded box to find it stamped Moog or one of the other name brands. I suspect most of these parts are made in a handful of factories and the brand tells the manufacturer what they want.

I was supposed to be a commercial delivery driver and later a hub driver, but I ended up working the parts counter, register, commercial orders, and stocking parts when I wasn’t driving, lol.

It depends on the line. Basic Mevotech (blue rubber parts) is junk. Their TTX is decent to good (green rubber parts).

I got the MOOG tie rod ends with the white bushings.

Less than a year old but their doing fine.

Do the tie rod ends just affect the "toe" of the alignment? If you make good measurements and get the new ones back in the same position as the old ones you should be good?

Tie rod ends do control toe in, but measuring the replacements will only get you close. It will still need an alignment. I do my own, but it takes some learning. Plenty of general toe in tips on Y-tube. For my coil 2wd truck, the toe in is about 3/32nds each side.
