I'm pretty new to AR15s, and the amount of uppers out there is a little overwhelming.
Was thinking of a Danial Defense as it was priced right, any reason not to?
Any uppers out there to completely avoid?

Talking about a stripped upper.
Not sure what I'll be doing for a lower. A new company started making ARs up north here, may buy one of their lowers in the future.

i'm looking at uppers right now, but not looking for a stripped one...
i'm looking at the $400 Del-ton
or the $600 one with flip up sight and different rail system.
http://www.del-ton.com/ProductDetails.asp?ProductCode=DT1025&CartID=1. but is the rail and sight the only difference?? i'm so confused on all this stuff.

actually i just made a "custom" one w/ what i think i want and it came out to $525

ar is an ar is an ar, for 90% of use cases.

JMHO, but Del-Ton will give you a reliable weapon.

Don't get hung up on brand names. Until you get into really exotic stuff, all AR's are built using pretty much the same parts, so you can spend lots of money if you really want to buy a fancy engraving on your mag well, or spend less and get the same rifle without the big name.

Personally I prefer iron sights and 20" barrels - an A2 in other words.

If you buy short barrels and funny length gas systems, etc, you can expect some degree of reliability issues. Guns ALWAYS work best in the size, caliber, and configuration as originally designed.

Yea, I was thinking a flat top with 20" barrel and a millet 1-4x scope.
So many different configurations, hard to choose, but simple usually sums up what I want.

I like the idea of assembling it myself. I assembled a vz58 out of a parts kits & barrelled receiver and it feels more my own now.

i've got a 16 inch barrel and carbine gas, thing feeds everything, every time, no problems.

Well, I am looking at ar15 uppers and also seeing many uppers for sale without any BCG. I want to ask if I buy an upper only from its BCG, will any BCG fits in any upper? And if upper is already head spaced, will it have to be rechecked after a new BCG is installed? Thanks

ar15 uppers

checking headspace takes about 30 seconds, and, as is said (and an expression i hate, generally) it is 'cheap insurance'

I have a R-15 and I freckin love it! I've shot coyotes in the neck at 300 yards, shot targets at 675 yards and still had a sub 10" group with 55gr fmj boat tails. It is a lil longer barreled gun though.

DD is GTG as is Del ton

A lower is a lower to a point. Much of what is in the price is the Name and the finishing. As long as the holes are to spec and the magwell drops mags free its all you need.

Most lowers are made by 4 or 5 forges and they ship them to the respective company for final working.

The AR works best with a 20'' bbl and a Rifle length gas system but you can go down to 10.5 with little issue as long as you have the proper good parts(loose quote from a thing I read by John Noveske)

The main difference in AR types is that you have mil spec and civilian, fitment issues are almost exclusively in the civi modles since they do not adhere to a standard as the mil spec does. All true mil spec recievers are +/- identical in dimensions. The "funny length gas systems" are not an issue, when designed that way. The mid length gas system runs cleaner than the carbine length as well.

Look at Rainier Arms, their complete lowers are $325 and have a VOLTOR stock, 4lb Timney trigger and are top notch. DD is top of the line as well but I have never fired them. If you are looking to do a budget build go here...http://www.surplusammo.com/. They have Aero brand recievers, very good quality and lower priced than most if not all in their class, then you also have the Surplus Ammo brand as well for a few bucks less. The complete lowers there are not bad either but I do not know enough about the DPMS lower parts kits they use for their builds.
