anyone got a ranger on rockwells

i am running duece and a half rocks under my ranger and the gear ratio on the duece are 6.72, i went with a pinion brake set up and i love it only cost me about $300 bucks to get 2 kits and 2 loaded calipers, i would go with a full hydro steer on them as well. i am so glad i went with the rocks over a 60 70 combo and was a lot cheaper in the long run, t case i am running the 205 could not see spending a couple grand for the atlas when you can build a 205 into an atlas for half the price and thats if you put the 3:1 kit in it, you can build a twin stick out of a 205 for just a few hours of your time and nothing needed besides some silicone, i am still running the 2:1 gears and in low range on the trails i am cruising in 2 and 3 gear in low range sometimes 2nd in high and i am running 42s.

You cant get 3:1 for a ford 205. Great strong case... Atlas is much better in the long run. Better gear choices.

You might be running around in high range here, but you wouldn't be in the rocks.

yea searched for the lowmax kit and they are not availible at this time and they dont know if they will be again, i will search for the website i got my pinion brakes from tonight, and i am running a mariied 205 behind my c6

diy4x.com is were i got my pinion brake kit and then bought one left and one right loaded caliper kit is 125 and calipers i think i paid around 80 each but i did not have a core

The issue i have with pinion brakes is that they wear insanely fast. People who sell them argue that you get more braking power because you're utilizing the gear reduction in the axle. This is true, but what they don't tell you is they wear pads and rotors in no time at all.

Another thing to consider is you have only two sets of brakes to stop your entire vehicle. If one fails that whole axle doesn't have brakes. With your brakes at the wheels you have safety in numbers. If one brake fails, you still have three more to get you through the day and back home.

Ultimately my opinion doesn't matter, you're building the rig...

i fully agree with you on the wheel brakes over a pinion brake but if you are limited on money its alot cheaper then wheel brakes, cheapest i found wheel kits were around 2k for all 4 corners and pinion was about 300-350 if you have calipers to turn in for cores. i wish i could afford wheel brakes

i think my BII had a great combination with the 5.0/435/205/rocks/42's... the crawl ratio was nice, i never came upon something i couldnt handle...

sorry it took so long, PM sent.

Thanks bud but I never got your pm. And I picked up the axles last week and the leafs a few days ago.

Also I aquired a Rockwell 2.5 ton transfer case through a trade with a friend for some equipment he needed and
I'm hopefully going to be picking up a c6 with a 205 or 208 on it so I can run dual cases and have an extra low gear ratio if I need it. Hopefully I can start working on it within the next week or so.

okay, this time i think the pm actually sent

Yup got it man thanks.

Did you find what you were looking for?

Yea I'm kinda using them as preventative medicine though just in case anything goes wrong. Thanks though
