Anyone good at drawing? I need something drawn...

shoot...toot away, that is a impressive drawing. the hammer looks real enough to grab from the screen and use! Awesome:icon_thumby:
:icon_rofl: True 'nuff!!

well here's the next one, let me know what you think. i think this is close to what you're lookin for. i put the text in just to give you an idea of what i was thinking. i forgot how hard it is for me to draw faces, usually i just draw things and objects. remember it will be much better after i do a computer version, so if you want i can put this one through illustrator/photoshop and then tailor it even more to get what you're lookin for.

in the computer i can put everything onto a 17x11 sheet and you'll know exactly how it'll look.

That's kinda close to what I had thought of (I had thought more along the lines of a cartoon style leprechaun). Now that I see it, I'm not sure about it. Any other ideas or do you want to try making a small cartoon style leprechaun?

definitely, i can do a cartoon leprechaun, it may be easier for me to draw actually. the one above was supposed to cartoonish, but it didnt really turn out that way. i'll throw in some other ideas too

dang i was gonna offer my services but thee are clearly some more talented individuals on here, those drawings look awesome :icon_thumby:

Don't get me wrong looks good. But I personly like more cartoonish logos. Thats very realalistic. Just my opinion.

lol, afraid to share your work now?

ok, i think this one is much closer, it's only a line drawing right now.....i'm gonna scan it in and touch it up with photoshop and then color it in photoshop, i'll post that when i finish it.

here's one with text also, let me know what you think or if you want me to move stuff around, it's 17x11

here are two more with just text and one that has a graphic.....just throwing them out there, sometimes simple says more.......they're both the size that the actual magnet would be. 17x11 is kinda an odd size for a sign, it's not really proportional (to me)

this one may be a little much, but the green on white catches your eye and frames the company name

I see you've been busy, lol.

Here is the details of the magnet specs for Vistaprint

I'd like the sign to have the company name, that it's been around since 1952, the phone number - (724) 602-9414, possibly a web link if it doesn't look too cluttered - www.JJGavinContractor.com, and it probably should have the PA contractors license number - PA057659. Not sure if it should include Butler, PA or not. I don't want it to look too cluttered, but at the same time I want it informative. You don't have to enter all of that on each sketch you make up, but I'd appreciate input on that all.

yeah, i do pretty much the same thing you do (except on my own) and i'm waiting to hear on 4 jobs right now, so yeah i got some time on my hands. it only took about 1.5 hours to do all that stuff.

plus, i do this kind of stuff on the side anyways, graphics/logos and product design. no to mention, if you end up using this, it's something i can put in my portfolio, resume and on job applications.....it is technically experience.

anyways here's what i'd put on the sign:

Company Name
since 1952 (small, but so you can see it)
phone #
website

maybe instead of creating another line, you could add the Butler, PA portion in the 'since 1952' part. something like "Serving Bulter, PA since 1952" or "Serving Western PA since 1952"

i'm about to color in the logo, i'll put it up when i'm done

ok, here's the colored version, workin on a 17x11 format right now.................btw, i dont know where that black line came from, cant get it to go away

here's what the magnet would look like, keep in mind that once the leprechaun is done in illustrator/photoshop, it'll be a lot cleaner......you could keep it this way as well. i added the "licensed and insured" (thats what we had at the contractor company i used to work at) part at the bottom instead of your actual permit #. i actually think it doesnt look half bad.......i still need to dial down the opacity on all the info. if you can tell it's a hair darker than the jj gavin part....it'll make it easier on the eyes

wow...i was scrolling downt he screen over that last picture there and it looked like the guy was waving at me, that would look nifty goin down the road...

Doesn't look half bad

Still not sure what design I want to go with yet, any other ideas you want to throw out before I make a decision?

According to the regulations surrounding the licensing in PA, you have to put your contractor number on there because it's an "advertisement" for the business. If I didn't have a website or phone number on it, then I wouldn't have to use the number. I don't agree with the whole licensing thing they did here anyway - they said it was to prevent people from getting ripped off by bad contractors... but all you have to do is get business insurance for a couple months, fill out a form and pay $50, bam, licensed for two years. No test, no oversight, nothing. Of course, if enough complaints are filed against you after two years you can't renew, but there's nothing stopping you from starting another business and doing it again. Just a way for the state to get more money out of the small business pocket (really big companies are exempt from the license).

Oh, if you want, I can give you some ad space or something on my site for doing the logo for me.

let me mess around with some more ideas, i'll see what i can come up with.

i can easily add the license number.

yeah, some of the laws states have are really stupid. the contracting company i worked for was started by 2 friends of mine. they just decided they wanted to start a contracting company, but we had a good bit of experience between the 3 of us and we did really good work. we didnt leave a job til the client was happy and followed all the laws in the state of alabama.....never had a complaint either. we were all licensed and insured and all that mess, they just couldnt get enough work during the winter (small town i guess).

you dont have to do that, you're in PA and i'm in NC, i dont even have ad's down here for my work, i go on craigslist and some design websites to find other small design work. just give me permission to put this in my portfolio/resume if you end up using any of them and email me some pics of the magnets on the truck and whatever else you put the logo on........that'll be payment enough
