Friend of Bill W.
I'd like to find a shop - preferably in Colorado and preferably one that has done this before - to do the 5.0L swap in my 2002 Ranger 4WD XLT. I have no place to do the swap myself.

I know this won't be cheap but neither are new trucks.

There are a few Custom build shops in Denver
Google: hot rod shops Denver

Even a few in Brighton

You want a Muscle car, a hot rod basically, a custom build

Not sure you will like the price, any shop must build it so they feel comfortable warrantying it and have it inspected for road license, so they will not be using any "used" parts
But then again it will be built to last

I've been talking to Old School Garage, a hot rod shop, in Northglenn. They are willing but have not attempted this one before.

Interested in what parts they use and what the final bill will be.... cheers and good luck with it.

There were a few shops in Denver that advertised they had mostly done Ford product work.

But local shop would probably be better even if they haven't done Ranger V8 swap
Loads of info they can look at on what is needed so they can give you a quote.
And it is just wrench work, not much is "Ford" specific.

You would need to decide on stock 5.0l, or slightly to heavily modified :)
And manual or automatic transmission, engine build matters here
Carb or EFI, can make a big difference in price.

Then rear axle(front axle, 4x4) and frame work depending on final horsepower and torque

a good shop will use used parts and warranty accordingly on a swap like this particular project that has been done to death if your starting with a good running condition donor..

5 grand i can see being labor as well..... depending on rules.

biggest problem is your truck is a 2002. if it was an 01 the explorer swap would be almost federally legal.

with a 2002 i would rather swap a 2002 or newer gm ls platform for a v8 engine....emissions would be a non issue that way..

e-rod or hell-crate would be some wild shit....
