My credo
Friend of Bill W.
I and my mechanic have been through 5 new ignition coil packs of various brands including Motorcraft and NAPA Eglin. All are bad. Fine when cold but begin to give misfires when hot. My mechanic thinks they are all built in the same facility and just given different brands. Meantime my 2002 Ranger sits!

So any alternatives? I'd much prefer a distributor and get rid of the coil pack and cam shaft sychronizer.

How about 6 standard ignition coils? Any way to wire those in?

Here's a TSB about bad coils. "If the first four numbers of the code fall in the numerical range from 7001 to 9213 replace coil with revised coil (F5SZ-12029-A). If the service coil label code falls in this range, obtain another service coil and again check the code on the label of the new service coil. Return coils that fall within the range for a refund per your part return policy. Only use the service coil if the first four numbers of the code DO NOT fall within the numerical range 7001 to 9213."

Here's my old one that I replaced with another motorcraft. Old one was working fine, just seen a good deal on a new one. As you can see the 4 numbers are 9322 so it's a good one technically. I'd give it to you if I could just so you have a known good one.

New plugs and wires got rid of a misfire I was having last year. If I got the rpms above 3500 while getting on the freeway, it would start missing bad. Hasn't happened since the new wires and plugs.

remember its waste spark.

count those pins.

wire system accordingly

i would use ls coils.

the ls coils will have 4 wires each....

2 wires ground...

1 gets crank/run powe

r and the other is the signal.....remember that gets split to its mate like the ford pak.
