tryin to make a road trip now Ive been wondering why temp gage goes just past half way then goes back n forth from half to 3 quarters, no water in oil but my tranny oil is reading waould it be something with radiator? its not that old, I dont anything looking wet on engine, any ideas? am I going to have to change head gasket? thanks to anyone that can help

why do you say there is antifreeze in your transmission?

chances are if you've got antifreeze in your transmission, you also have atf in your coolant... pop your rad cap, if you've got a redish sludge ontop of the coolant, you've got a big problem, like a do not drive it problem...

i would bet dollars to doughnuts that your rad is f-ed, but i don't know for sure... i can't see anywhere else that those two fluids come anywhere near eachother

if that is the case, you will need to change your rad, and flush 100% of your coolant, and atf

After some decoding what I think he is trying to say is that the temp in his trans is running high as well as his coolant temp. And he is wondering if his rad is part of the heating issue.

If your coolant temp is high, first check to make sure your overflow is at the full lever as well as the level in your rad. If they both are drive your truck around and get it good and hot then park on a very clean surface and let it sit. Check after a few hours and see if anything develops under. If nothing start snooping around your engine bay for leeks. Also check your oil for a milky color to the oil, if it looks like milk chocolate you have a problem. But just because your gage says your in the middle area it does not mean there is a problem. Depending on where you live, for example I live in the California desert and 7 months out of the year I'm in the bottom range of my temp gage, but when it the ambient temp starts to brake into the triple digests I'm in the middle of the gage.

As for your trans it could be a similar issue of level or ambient temp. If it bothers you that much you can install a trans cooler.

well ,from other info Ive learned on an automatic the only place coolant could get into transmission is from radiator, I know the tranny is cooled that way, internal leak in radiator, Im in the process of changing rad. flushing trans fluid, change trans filter and disconnecting oil cooler line, putting in new fluid till things are looking red again. I guess this is better than head gasket change,, thanks
