For the most part, I could care less about tailgaters anymore. I drive an F-150 for work and a F-350 for work. The F-350 has a half inch thick hitch plate adorned with a pintle hitch and a reese receiver. It has stopped cars before.... some guy driving an old buick (when they had real steel bumpers) slammed into that once. Totalled the car and took a couple chips of paint off the truck... Nope, if some moron in a plastic minivan wants to try that on for size, more power to 'em. And if it's a truck, well, the dump needs a new bed anyway...
I had two morons tailgating me a while back, one a mom in a minivan and the other a guy on a motorcycle.... with two shotguns hanging on the rack in the back window... people are stoopid anymore.
Despite it being illegal, my hitch is usually in my receiver. For some people the realization of a big chunk of metal sticking out the back is a deterrent.
For some morons, when you slow down, so do they, and they will refuse to pass you. I've encountered that more and more. If they're behind me, fine, they can stay there, my primary concern is the morons in front of me that pull into my stopping zone.
I used to get excited about it. Now I only get excited when some brainless moron on a cellphone pulls out to make a left right in front of me when I'm dragging a trailer and 8,000 pound machine. It just don't stop so good.
My choptop is usually a deterrent in and of itself. Most people take great pains to avoid me on the road, lol.
