what if you are on a two lane road like 95% of the ones where i live

and another thing that pisses me off is when you go to pass someone on a 4 lane and the person ahead of you in your lane is going just a little faster the the person that you are passing and you are stuck behind 2 cars that are going almost the same speed , but not side by side , just enough apart where one is ahead of the other , but you cannot fit between them

i used two old KCs and mounted them on the frame and on my old yota with 7inches of lift and 35s that put them almost pointing into the windshiled and i had them on a switch and i had a drunk i know cause he was all over the road our lane and th other lane keep in mind it was a two lane road thank the lord no ther cars but us were on it that nite i slowed to down to let him pass me but he didnt and he got right on my bumper and wouldnt back off no matter how slow i went and after about 30mins of his highbeams on i flicked on those KCs and they shined through his windshield and out the back of the car i was laughing so hard he pulled over and got out rubbing his eyes. awesome nite till i got pulled over a week later for having them and them being wired up but he let me off with a warning once i explained why i had them(told him i used them for off road trail riding)

I had a guy tailgate me at night with his lights off for about two miles. I tapped the brakes a few times and eventually pulled over so he could get by. He pulled in behind me and turned on his flashers, it was a cop.

>.<

So... what happened after that? lol :icon_bounceblue:

He asked me why I kept hitting my brakes and driving on the shoulder. I told him it was because I had some guy tailgate me for two miles with his lights off and it was starting to creep me out so I pulled to the side to let him by. He laughed and said that he was following me because I was going a little too fast down the road and he proceded with the usual "Slow down I'm going to let you go this time" routine.

Haha Nice Koda.

Yeah, I don't mind the people in town that tailgate me because I can just slow down obsurdly till they speed up or I do and they keep their distance, but most people besides kids are nice here and don't tailgate.

The people who do and really piss me off are the people that have to tailgate me on the highway when I'm already doing 10 over with thier highs on in jacked up chevys or dodges and they refuse to pass, perfect straight streches with no traffic, I slow down and pull over a bit and they still don't. Thats when I stomp the brakes. They either pass or back off.

well its illegal to ride out there anyway, its for passing only.

If im going say 35 in a 30 and some comes up behind me i'll slow down to around 28 or so. i get a feeling of self-satisfaction out of it. On the highway if im going over the speedlimit i just ignore them, they'll pass me pretty quickly if they really want to go that fast

In the incident with the Ridgeline I *was* passing someone who was doing 45 in a 55, in the Dodge one, we were in the right lane to begin with.

When I'm in Harrisburg traveling south on I-81 I usually get tailgated closely in the last 1/4 mile before my exit at the PA-581 ramp, which just happens to be the left-most lane of a 3-lane section of the highway, which by our laws I believe makes the center lane the actual passing lane.

The people who really piss me off are the ones who are on their phone and not paying attention to what they are doing, or like the guy in that dodge who was definitely just being a dill-hole. As he was coming up on us probably going at least 90, I was almost certain he was about to roll his truck over by the way it was rocking back and forth. At first I thought he might not have control over it and that we needed to get out of the way, then he stopped the wobble and just got right up on the bumper until she gave him the brakes, then he pulled around and was laughing the whole time.

i tend to go over the posted speed limit myself. (not ususally more than 10-15mph over)if i come up on a vehicle going slower than me sometimes i let my testosterone get the better of me and i tend to get a little close to the guy in font of me. i dont usually have anyone tailgate me unless im in heavy traffic and i got nowhere else to go. when i was younger i would do stupid things like "brake check" but now i empathize a little cuz if i was in a hurry, i could be in that guys shoes behind me. i dunno theres people on the road that do wayyy dumber things behind the wheel than tailgate so i let it go.

edit: i guess it depends on the area youre in. in most places defensive driving could get you run over. sometimes you have to be alert and kind of agressive(which requires common sense and skill).

I hate tailgating people, it never feels safe... probably cause it isn't. I hang back at a safe distance until I know I have a passing opportunity then I wait and run up and pass so i am in the other lane as little as I possibly can.

I usually just slow down a lot. Gives me much more satisfaction than brake checking someone because 9 times out of 10 they don't get the hint.

I will admit that I ride people's asses real close in the left lane, especially if they're going under or close to the speed limit, or taking forever to pass somebody. It works really well because they always get the hint and nobody has ever tried brake checking me.

For the most part, I could care less about tailgaters anymore. I drive an F-150 for work and a F-350 for work. The F-350 has a half inch thick hitch plate adorned with a pintle hitch and a reese receiver. It has stopped cars before.... some guy driving an old buick (when they had real steel bumpers) slammed into that once. Totalled the car and took a couple chips of paint off the truck... Nope, if some moron in a plastic minivan wants to try that on for size, more power to 'em. And if it's a truck, well, the dump needs a new bed anyway...

I had two morons tailgating me a while back, one a mom in a minivan and the other a guy on a motorcycle.... with two shotguns hanging on the rack in the back window... people are stoopid anymore.

Despite it being illegal, my hitch is usually in my receiver. For some people the realization of a big chunk of metal sticking out the back is a deterrent.

For some morons, when you slow down, so do they, and they will refuse to pass you. I've encountered that more and more. If they're behind me, fine, they can stay there, my primary concern is the morons in front of me that pull into my stopping zone.

I used to get excited about it. Now I only get excited when some brainless moron on a cellphone pulls out to make a left right in front of me when I'm dragging a trailer and 8,000 pound machine. It just don't stop so good.

My choptop is usually a deterrent in and of itself. Most people take great pains to avoid me on the road, lol.

speaking of cops..... I was on I-95 going toward Boston, when I had an ass in a Audi A4 tailgating us in our Grand Cherokee(RIP) and he passed us in the right lane... we were in the center lane. Then a cop was tailgating him (NO LIGHTS)..... then, the cop passes him, and the Audi PASSES the COP!!!!!! the cop throws his lights on and at the next exit (300yds away) the cop pulls of the highway letting the Audi go without anything..........

Like the cop was screwing with him?!?!?!?!?

People just get off of the gass and let them pass you. even better when there is no where for them to go to change lanes. like when you are in the far left lane and a semi is next to you.

then you can do stuff like blow kisses. this pisses of dudes and freaks out chicks.

that's not really how it works with the tailgaters I think most of us are talking about. The ones that are so insulted by your decision to go 10mph over the speed limit and not 15 that they refuse to pass you, even when they have the opportunity, no matter how much you slow down. Like they're trying to prove a point, or they want YOU to move out of their way because it just takes so much energy for them to move over a lane and pass you.

I used to have a lot more trouble with this when I was driving small sports cars. But now, I'm either in my full size 4x4 truck, or my Bronco II which has a National Rifle Association sticker proudly displayed on the back window. Not sure if it does anything but I haven't had many people on my bumper in that thing, and I definitely drive slower in it than I ever have anything else.
