yesterday i broke the harmonic valve sprocket on my ranger, trying to take of the timing pulley, now i can't find it anywhere, is the junkyard my only option to find this part?

can i have this made on a cnc lathe and put back on my ranger or will i throw codes?

Harmonic valve sprocket?

Do you mean "harmonic balancer"? I have an extra one in my garage if you need one. Other then that you'll have to get one from the junkyard I think.

yes i did mean the harmonic balancer, i was able to finally find one at the ford dealership, it comes with the pulley as well in the kit. for a 116$ i would keep looking for another one, but i need to put my truck back together since this is my daily driver.

i did look at every junkyard in portland oregon, and no one had one, i think thats kinda weird, i almost bought another engine to take the part off of, but now i will just put on the dealer part, and put my turbo engine back for the future still.

i still can't get the crankshaft pulley off, ive tried bumping the starter, ive tried an air impact, ive tried heating it up. what else can i do to get it off?

this might sound silly, but if you are replacing the part anyway, try hitting it with a hammer and if that dont work, go to auto zone and rent a harmonic balancer puller. that will make life a lot easier after you take out frustrations with the hammer.

Are you talking about the bolt or the harmonic balancer itself?

If it's the bolt, then try a long pipe over the ratchet to get it off for leverage. The threads are normal (counter-clockwise to loosen) so you don't have to worry about reverse threading or anything.

If it's the actual harmonic balancer then do as said before and go get a puller if you don't have one mate!

yeah the bolt is what im having problems with, and i have tried the hammer thing, the leverage thing, big pipe over the wrench thing, and every other thing i can think of. how hot could i heat it up to maybe loosen it up, without hurting enything?

I just did this 2 weeks ago ! Used a belt wrench( as my timing belt had snapped ) and a
1/2" electric dewalt impact gun . 10-15 seconds with the gun & she came right out.

Use a breaker bar, put it on at the 4' O clock position, then put a floor jack under it and lift away. With a 1 foot bar the weight of truck will put 3000 FT LBS of torque on it, I don't think any impact gun will do that.

Just like this, this also works real good on drive shaft bolts or anything eles thats a bitch

that's a sweet way to do it man, but it still didn't break it loose, i can see the whole engine wanting to turn out of it's bolts. I'm about to just put my baby in front of my house and make my number 2 driver my number 1. then put a new engine in the ranger, i think it's time for a bigger engine anyway.

What I did on mine was use a socket and breaker bar set up so the bar was resting on the driver's side frame rail. Then I bumped the starter. But BE VERY CAREFUL!!! You could have the tools flying around the shop, recommended as a last ditch effort only!

yeah man i tried that as well, i had a huge breaker bar and a huge 7/8 in socket. i bumped the starter several times, and all it did was stop the engine without the bolt turning what so ever. :icon_confused:
